so you dont agree with going with a k&n and the hyperteck tuner?I know I at 365 torque and 300hp on a2005 5.4 supercab, thought making more power to tow was the direction to go as gears will keep costing in reduced fuel mileage and inital out lay of about 2grand not counting cost of gears

Tuners that are just "one-size-fits-all" are not a very good investment. They're a joke. Typically they do more harm that good, but the owner is convinced otherwise simply because the trans shifts harder, and they spent money on it. Same with exhaust-if the OE system is good, then the only gains are an obnoxiously loud exhaust note. Tow with aftermarket exhaust for a long distance, and you'll understand what I'm telling you.
Higher numerical gearing does NOT automatically mean that you're gonna get worse fuel mileage-the largest percentage of the time with trucks like these, it's actually opposite. Perfect example are the 4.30 equipped V10 trucks-they regularly get 1-2mpg better than my 4.10 equipped truck. It's all about load, and the ability of the driveline to multiply the available torque through the gearing. The minimal 10-15 hp gains you MIGHT see with exhaust and some kind of intake are nothing compared to the gains from gearing.

I have nothing to add beyond what Johnny has said. He knows and speaks the truth... Just wanted audience to know there are many others who found the same results.
Need performance? Gears.
Just want noise? Exhaust.
