Cool, thanks for all the info, the mega fuse and wiring I already have, the 9400 internationals use the 175 amp fuse for the main power, lots laying around the shop
I have an FE . At the bottom of the diagram it says to increase the mount by 3" . Does this apply to my block . I know a welder that can fabricate this for me .
Like said above all taurus 3Gs are not 130 amp so if that is what you want make sure that you get a 130, at a pick and pull the price will likely be the same.
That BAT wire looks awfully close to the head. Is it as close as it looks, is there a chance of it touching and blowing the fuse? Because it looks like the insulating boot is above the alternator. Just a question, cause I'd like to do this too since I have two amps installed also.
EDIT: On second thought I have a 302 so the mounting may be a little different and not as close as yours is.
you can always take the 175 mega fuse off the doner car. on the taurus its on the passenger side of the fuse box attatched to the radiator. hey if you're taking the bat lead might as well take that too...
I was in the U-Auto-Pull-It last friday looking around at the Taurus and Thunderbird alternators and nearly all of them had oxidation on them. You know, kinda chalky white powder. Whats the best way to get that off and not get it all down inside the alternator or does it matter. Can I just rub it with a little sandpaper and then just spray the alternator out with some spray electrical cleaner in a can?
Undo the three bolts on the case and take it apart. It is very easy to put back together. I used a drill with a wire brush in it. The end of the brush will clean and dull, but the side of the brush will polish. Practice on your alt that you are replacing or your waterpump. After you get it clean you can paint it or just clear it.
