schwarz,

Yeah, it all sounds good, unless you are someone like me who monitors their credit score closely. If you open and account refi and open a new account, it will hurt your score. Maybe not enough to make a difference for some of us, but for some it will. It is not worth the hassle to me.

The damage to your score for opening and refinancing an auto loan is only a short lived minor reduction in score. Again, to each his own, and for you it may not be worth the hassle. Just to keep in mind that hassle would put almost a grand in your pocket, not exactly chump change for most of us.

That is what the dealer said. BS. It doesn't matter if it is a "short lived minor reduction". It is still BS that dealers do this.

BS that dealers do what??? FORD MOTOR CREDIT is the one offering the rebate, they make the rules for it! Don't hate on the dealer, we are actually trying to HELP you SAVE MONEY! It's is amazing to me how everything is always blamed on the dealership. In case you were wondering, I work for a dealership, and I came on here to help out the fellow FTE members. So although you are obviously convinced that every dealership is trying to screw you, I am actually here to prove you wrong. Thanks for playing!

I don't think all dealers are trying to screw people, although many are. I worked for an old school small town dealer years ago that didn't do this. In any event, the credit when paying cash thing is BS. The dealer DOES NOT need to run credit to verify identity. There are other methods, both documentary and non-documentary. All the lieing I've seen where dealers are telling people they can't pay off their FMCC loan for three months or pay back the rebate.....again, BS.

I'm not saying you are full of BS. Maybe you are a rare dealer who cares. Most don't.

I absolutely do not blame the dealer.....as a matter of fact, it was the sales manager that gave me the info on how to get the 1K and just finance a small amount for `5 days. Total cost for me, about $50 and I save a thousand. Can't blame the dealer; they want to make a profit also and we are all big boys so at the end of the day, we have the choice whether or not to buy the vehicle. One of the reasons I left Toyota was that our local toyota dealer was not willing to properly discount the truck. This is my first Ford and I hope the new KR does as well as all the Toyotas I have had over the years. Time will tell. That said, the new KR is a beautiful truck; toyota does not make one that is that well trimmed out.
