59 F100 ford-o-matic shift lever
I recently discovered, during a replacement of my turn signal switches, that I need the little part in the shift lever that holds the shifter in place. it is in the shift lever and is spring loaded. Mine has worn down to the point that the lever slides easily from park to reverse. Does anyone know where I can either find this part or have it made. I block my tires whenever I park, out of fear that it will slip and roll. Thanks in advance for any help. I am also looking for the steering wheel and horn ring. It is a custom cab.

Honestly, I don't believe the part in the shift column functions that way you think it does. The detents for the shift positions are in the transmission, not the column. But perhaps in the earlier shift mechanisms there was a second mechanical lock (the one you had to lift the handle to get up and over).
On my truck I have a C6 and am using the MANUAL shift on the column to shift the automatic transmission and it sticks in Park all by itself when I put it there.
But each thing being different, I wouldn't think that it should be too hard to get out a file and some metal stock and carve out a new one. Either that or find another column with a good one in it.
I'm sure someone may know a place to find those. ND Bill may know where one is.

Thank you Julie for your response and suggestions. I am on the hunt for a better version of the one I have, but so far, no joy. On the 59, there is a plate that attaches to the column that has the detents cut out for this little piece to fit into; and when I park, it does stay in park. I am just afraid that one day I will not quite put in park and something bad will happen. I remain hopeful that someone out there knows where I can find one. By the way, I see that you are in Poway. I am in Carmel Valley. Keep an eye out for a really rough looking, half yellow, half purple 59. That's my baby.

I know , I'm a jerk!
Purple and yellow huh? Doesn't sound like I'll have to look too hard to find you!

First to Vern. Thank you for your help. I will keep my fingers crossed. To Julie; you are completely correct about my neighbors. I have been summoned to the HOA board more than once to discuss my automotive treasures. Luckily for me, The CC&rs don't extend to the public street. I was in the parking lot at the Ralph's on Del Mar Heights one day and a lady opened her door into the side of my truck while I was sitting in it. I expected her to be embarrassed and apologize; but all she did was check her door for damage and walk away. That's Carmel Valley.

Oh, I thought that ford pickup’s auto trans jumping into reverse was a factory option that automatically (pun intended) happened at 100,000 miles. The running one that was parked across the street from where I used to work sure did, ...........do you know that in reverse with no driver the front wheels will turn to one extreme and the vehicle will go around and around in ever decreasing circle, unless it runs into the side of my daily driver that is, which it did!

1959 F100 Ford-O-Matic Shift Lever
I recently discovered, during a replacement of my turn signal switches, that I need the little part in the shift lever that holds the shifter in place. it is in the shift lever and is spring loaded. Mine has worn down to the point that the lever slides easily from park to reverse. Does anyone know where I can either find this part or have it made.
1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section A72, Page 1.
The shift lever itself attaches to the shift tube with a roll pin (357479S).
Between the shift lever and the shift tube is a rubber insulator (B8S7246A).
Inside the shift tube below where the lever attaches are two coil springs, and two retainers for the coil springs:
1) B2AZ7B071A .. Transmission Gearshift Selector Lever Spring.
1) AB7227A .. Gear Shift Tube Retracting Spring.
2) C1AZ7C230A .. Transmission Gear Shift Selector Tube Retracting Spring Retainer.
Sequence of assembly inside the tube from top to bottom: (1) 7C230, 7B071, (1) 7C230, 7227.
I do not see any plate with detents cut out inside the column that you are refering to in post #3.
Since you prolly don't have the parts catalog (it's available on a CD from hipoparts.com for about 20 bucks), it's possible that C&G Ford Parts in Escondido has one you can look at, or...
You can come up to Hacienda Heights and look at mine.
Steering wheel and horn ring: If C&G does not have anything, try Early Ford Store (earlyfordstore.com) in San Dimas.
I know of another source locally that has a whole bunch of NOS horn rings for these trucks that have Power Steering.
The ring has POWER STEERING marked on it in block letters, otherwise it's the same without P/S.

thanks to all who answered
Julie, thanks for the offer to help post my pics. One day my children will get up before the crack of noon and help an old codger like me navigate through this brave new electronical world. F1; its a good thing you are so far away from San Diego or lightning might strike twice. Thank you Vern for the photos. I emailed you to say that you have exactly what I need. And thanks to Bill for all the info. I am especially interested in the possibility of power steering. was that an option in 59? If so, any advice about how to get those parts would be appreciated also. The guys at C and G are very nice and very helpful. They just laugh when I come in; but they are laughing with me, not at me.

I've been working with another member of this forum (ibuzzard. who has a '59 F250 2WD) for several years to find the parts. So far, all I've found is the P/S pump.
Some ppl have installed Toyota P/S in these trucks. One member of this forum who has done this is Col Flashman, who has a 1958 Mercury M100.
I've seen Col Flashman's P/S setup, as he's a FTE SoCal chapter member and lives in Pomona.
