I tried replacing the leaking oil cooler lines (going from the cooler on the block to the remote oil filter under the bumper) and when attempting to remove the bolts on the engine side of the lines, a bolt broke off. Approx 1/4 inch of bolt is hanging out but I've tried everything to get it out (unsuccessul because of lack of room to work).

How do I remove the oil cooler (so I can get the bolt out)? The chilton manual is not very helpful. Any ideas would be appreciated.

 

Got it all fixed...Interesting setup, but well worth the work/money to get the oil leak stopped.

Is this a job that can be done without special tools, or do both the block and filter assemblies need to be taken to a hydraulic shop for new fittings?

 

There are no hydraulic fittings. The oil cooler is just a piece that the engine oil passes through while coolant is flowing around it to keep it cool.
