Elect. Burning Odor A/C vent
Hi all,
Have a 2000 Ford Ranger. For the past week I noticed an odor of like electrical wire buring. The odor is coming from the A/C vent when I have the blower on. No smoke, just the odor. Blower motor works on all speeds. Cannot smell the odor anywhere while looking under the hood or inside the cab, only from the A/C vent. Odor not apparent until blower turned on. Looking at the Resistor Plug and outside of the blower motor, no evidence of melting or burning. I suspect that the blower motor or resistor may be the problem.
The A/C and heater work OK.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this with their Ranger and what the cause was?
Thanks for reading my post!

Might want to pull the reistor block and check it with blower running to see if that is the source. Had a similar situtation with my Toyota and due to corrosion on the inside lugs of the resistor pack the backelite material was actually getting too hot and causing the odor. Might want to check for the odor under the hood near the cowl area. Maybe it is being drawn in from engine compartment.

Be careful running the blower with the resistor pack outside the blower housing they are put in there for a reason they get extremely hot and the air flow cools them off. They also have a one time safety device in them called a thermistor if it goes you have to replace the resistor pack. You can unplug the resistor and run the blower on high if the smell is still there then yes it is the blower motor

Thanks 03 Maz. I was unable to smell the odor under the hood at the area of the blower motor and resistor block. I'll have to pull the resistor block as you mentioned. I might just buy one and replace it.
I appreciate your taking the time to reply.
