$250 for this stuff??

Looking for an intercooler and pipes. Came across a guy that says he will sell me a 7.3L intercooler, pipes and clamps, and a posi-trac setup for my rear axle for $250. He also says that he will throw in a HK blow off valve no charge.

My questions are 1) Is this a good deal- it sounds like it is. 2) I have a 5 speed and dont really know if this posi-trac will work in my truck. Apparently, he bought it for an 96' F250 2WD and just never put it in. Do I have the same rear axle as his truck. It seems like our trucks either have 3.55s or 4.10s. Am I right on this?

I would say that's a great deal. As far as the rear ends, they are the same and doesn't matter if its a auto or stick. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not an expert on rear ends. Your right about the gear ratio's.

It is not a complete axle. He says its everything but the pinion, so it sounds like it would be a pretty tough install. The only type locker I've but in was a Aussie into a Chrysler 8.25. I didn't have to remove the carrier for that which made it a lot easier.

OK, just to clarify, ALL 96 250s and 350s came with Sterling 10.25 rear axles. Now, some came with 3.55s and some with 4.10s. Am I right on this cause I might get up with this guy later today.

Yes, I believe that to be a true statement but I'm not 100% sure. I wish someone else would chime in.

Sounds like a decent deal. I'm pretty sure the gears will be 3.55 or 4.10's.
If not sure you can pop the cover and count the teeth.

Was posi traciton and option for F250s and F350s back then? I'm trying to figure out what it came from or if it is aftermarket.

If your rear end is original it will be 3.55s or 4.10s.

On the build sticker on your door or door jamb your axle code will tell you what gearing and max weight your axle is.

On F-250 trucks C9 is 3.55 limited slip, 39 is 3.55 conventional, C5 is 4.10 LS and 35 is 4.10 Conv. F-350 Trucks can have these axles or D9 is 3.55 LS, 49 is 3.55 Conv. D5 is 4.10 LS, and 45 is 4.10 Conv. I believe C and 3- axles are 6250 Pound and D and 4- are 7400 Pound axles.

Hope this helps!

Awesome, just what I wanted to know. Picked it up today. The ring gear has 41 teeth on it. Is it from 3.55s or 4.10? He was saying that I could take the ring gear off mine and put it on this if it wasn't the correct gearing.

I know that this is not the easiest thing to install and most people leave it up to a professional for rear end work no matter how confident they are as a mechanic. I'm debating on what to do. I just want to get this thing in so I stop getting stuck in my front yard.
