Toolbox/And a Need to Paint
I need some advice. A friend of mine has a nice Better Built tool box thats chrome, but he just bought a black truck and wants to spray paint or get someone to paint it black for him.. What do you guys think? You think it is worth it and would look good? He just doesn't want to have to buy a new $300 to 500 dollar box thats black and I don't blame him. Could he spray paint it real good with a nice black or would you have to sand the chrome down before doing it? Does anyone know someone who has had a box painted by a body shop? Or is it worth just buying a new one?
I didn't really know what to tell him so I wanted to ask you guys for your opinion!
A friend of mine told me that Rhino Liner stuff works real well and several people he knows has done it
on chrome tool boxes

Better built should be aluminum diamond plate. I'd assume you'd have to etch or sand the heck out of it to get a good adhesion surface. Now when a tool box is sold as black it's a powder coat. My suggestion would be to get an estimate from your local machine shop for powder coating.
Otherwise maybe start with an acid etching primer, or another primer designed to bond to polished aluminum. Then apply the recommended top coat to that.
