300 to 302

I am looking at buying a '90 F150 with the 300 in it and I was wondering, how hard of a swap would it be to make it a 302? Thanks I am wanting to lift the truck and use it for play.

not hard at all. every engine ford made for these trucks, including the diesel, will pretty much drop right in with only minor mods (mounts, some electrical, and other minor things) i have never personally done it, but there are some guys on here that have done it. im sure they will show up here eventually

well, depending on what you are planning on doing with it you might wanna keep the six. i have a 300 and i love it. if you are using it for trail riding and some mud, the six is the way to go. its bulletproof, in my opinion, the most reliable engine ford ever made. they regulary see 250,000+ miles. plus its got loads of low-end torque. ppost this farther down in the 300 six forum and see what kinda responses you get

I may not go with the 302, but was considering a lift kit.

i would deal with a lift before going into a 302 swap. Soon as you get it in your going to want to modify it better option might be find the 5.0 block build start with the build on it then put it in when your all good and ready

What would a good gear to put in the back to run 35's, or would those tires be to big for the 300 to turn? It would probably be a 6 inch lift. Thanks for any help.

lol too big for a 300 to turn, there is a realson they call these motors stump pullers. but anyways, a 3.73 would be good. if you wanted a 4.11 would do good too, but they would cost you on the interstate

were you being sarcastic, or is a lift out of the question? I don't know much on the 300.

The 300 and 302 are the best [small] motors built. They're both bullet proof and stout.

If you want to swap the 300 out for a 302 you'll want to build the 302 up. Cam, headers, full length exhaust and a low gear set will make the 302 roar.

The 300 is a good engine for turning the key and going.

The deal fell through. The truck was over priced. It had about 153k paint on the hood was junk and it had the usual ford rust.

Well, the reason so many people call the 302 a dog is because Ford undercut it straight from the factory. They didn't give it a good cam. The exhaust is restrictive. The gears are too high.

That's why I say, the 300 is a good engine just to turn the key and go. That's what I really like about mine.. Turn the key and beat on her!
