okay so im curious to see if their is any want or value to a 66 f600 wrecker. we've got this old girl sitting around the shop and im curious if its worth my time to really make her shine. its running a 391. im not concerned about the wrecker part i know what thats worth but i want to see about the rest of truck. its not in bad shape at all a few rust spots.

Wreckers are awesome trucks, and they were to perform a mission. Most of the wreckers were well taken care of because the mission they had / do have were and are still huge. Post pictures, both of the good and bad points.

i'll nab some photos as soon as i can. the main reason were not running it right now is that its got no power steering, or power brakes. so it'd be limited on how much it can tow. not to mention these things are not super heavy. so a bit light in the nose. i'd love to be able to use it. i just dont know if its worth putting a bunch of time and money into. i mean do they make a heavier brake set up? i've never gone too in-depth on the larger f series. i own a 73 f-250 so im in new teritory here.

Don't know if this sold at $6500, adjust for condition/equipment:

Ford-Truck Enthusiasts Classifieds - 1966 Ford F600 Fire Truck - Original/Low Miles - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

$2000 for a dump:

1966 F-600

Sold at $375:

1966 Ford F600 S/A Flat Bed Truck in Missouri, United States (IronPlanet Item #199348)

$2000, tow truck:

1966 Ford F600 military tow truck

I'd part it out.

As a "working" truck, I'd say it's days are over. The flatbed tow seems to have taken over for damage-free towing of expensive and especially 4x and AWD vehicles.

HOWEVER, if it's worth more than that to you just as a nice old truck, give it a go. Be warned--no one will give you what it's "worth" to you.

Good luck with it.

I feel that installing a flatbed or a dump box on an older single axle like that is acceptable for the guy who usesit now and then. I know quite a few people who have hobby farms in my area who use trucks like that for their heavier landscaping chores. They tend to be a bit slow and long in the stopping compared to a new mack or F650 however if maintained properly and driven sensibly they are safe and useful tools.

Would I want to drive a F600 dump body for 2000 hrs a year NO! but for once and a while youll have a cool looking, useful, tool.

It's worthless, let me know when I can come and get it out of your way, so you can move that nice new one in there.

Sounds cool, get some pics out here.

huh, im rather surprised by what some of those went for. i mean by no means is it a show stopper. we have a small towing company and it just looks cool. right now its yellow with black grill and black insets on the hood. the interior is white with black seat and dash pad. i didnt even think of getting photos yesterday when the sun was out.

Me too, Me too-----

Unfortunately, did not bookmark the threads but there are couple FTE members who are/were in the process of restoring their F600 and posted pic's of their project, if recall, one of the threads is fairly recent. Suggest try running a search under F600 and narrow the field to the 61-66 forum then contact them and inquire, am certain they would be willing to share.
