Spark plugs for my 460
#16
plugs wires and don't forget cap and rotor. my efi motor had some weird problems with a bad cap and rotor. the rotor wore down, and the truck sat for a few months and the contacts got corroded. it lost some mileage and performance, and one morning it just started spitting and backfiring and wouldn't start. my truck sits for some time every once in awhile, so i didn't notice the decline in performance. just something to check on

I did learn one plug trick bad in the late 60's. The Ford FE truck engines ran the Champion RF9 or RF10 plugs while the cars ran the RF9Y and RF11Y. The "Y" plugs had an extend reach on the electrodes. Putting the "Y" plugs in the trucks boosted the mpg by at least 1 number and sometimes more. I have never checked to see if the car 460 ran a different plug than the truck but it might be worth the try.
It's time for new plugs in Clyde, I ran across this little bit of information and was wondering what plug you were running in your 460. As it stands now I'm planning on buying some "flavor" of Autolite 25's but was rather intrigued by your car vs truck plug experience and where you've gone with it.

I’ve been running 460’s for over 40 years now and have tried about every plug made. I have settled in on the AC R44TS for the last 20 years in Old Blue with a gap of .045. They always run clean with a nice brown color. Old blue has a few mods, i.e. 750 Edelbrock, oversize Manley s/s racing valves, heads ported with the smog bumps removed. Stock cam with double roller straight up, roller rockers, MSD Ignition, 2 ½ duals with straight thru thrush mufflers, other than that completely stock.
