Roll on bed liner on lower body

I have heard of many off-roaders doing this to protect their paint from rock chips. However, it would probably be prone to scraping if you manage to scrape against a rock or something. I considered doing this to my last truck, but the rust beat me to it. This truck I don't know that I'll do it, but there's another option.
Motorhome drivers are using a clear film (several mil's thick) that, when installed properly, is almost invisible and protects quite well from rock chips and whatnot. I am considering going this route.

Sure, lots of people have coated the lower sections of the truck, bumpers, steps, etc. Line-X can even color match the truck. See link below for pics.

I did it to my truck. I used the Herculiner kit. it turned out great. you just gotta be patient. it goes on in a couple coats. just dont put it on to thick on the first coat. It dries pretty quick. about an hour between coats. Then about four-five hours to final cure. I found it at autozone for about $90.

Follow the prep instructions carefully - we tried the duplicolor roll on product on the underside of a '64 Chevelle - and after cleaning with brake clean and wire brush - we applied with a paddle, then rolled.... looked great. By the next oil change most of it was starting to peel off. Very discouraging.
I've considered having it sprayed on to the INSIDE of the rockers / floors, bed sides, etc... sort of like they did the real good old texaco rust proofing you can't seem to get anywhere anymore.
My cousin sprays the line-x and has done several trucks "under the bottom body line" and they've done well through several central michigan winters.
