GVRW for Class D license

MR Crete.... This is taken straight from the Mississippi DOT page....under the section referring to the different types of CDL's
"Class D. All other vehicles or combination of vehicles which are not included in Class A, Class B or Class C and for which a commercial license is required to be issued as provided by Section 63-1-43, Mississippi Code of 1972. "
In Mississippi a class D IS a type of commercial license. A regular license is a Class R.
It is not I who is confused....
I'm not saying that class D is a commercial license in every state. It may not be in yours. However, it is in mine.
As for my other example.....I was referring to private use. Such as pulling a large 5th wheel camper. Or moving your farm tractor. Not commercial hauling.

The 25k trailer would still require a class A (Non Comm) in WY.

Maybe I should email them and tell them they are wrong.

Exactly, it's not a federal CDL. It's a state thing. Florida has a similar Class D. A regular license is a class E. I was just making point that different states have different rules.

Now now, calm down, don't get your panties in a bunch. I said you had a good point, I'm just not sure it adds much to the conversation when he's already said he isn't gonna be towing doubles.
I've found this site to be pretty darned helpful and people seem to be pretty nice. But I guess I have a slightly thicker skin than some. *shrugs*

More debate
There is some contraditcion in DMV and DOT. DOT says any combination of vehicles exceeding 26001lbs requires a CDL. Class B if single vehicle with GVWR of 26001 or more. Class A if vehicle and trailer have GVWR of 26001 or more. Doesn't matter if the trailer is empty.
DMV says CDL is running "combined plates" on tow vehicle and "token" plates on trailer and the GVWR is over 26001.
Now the conflict comes if you license a pickup lets say that has a GVWR of 26000 or less with any trailer that takes the combined weight above 26001, but has been registered for it's appropriate weight.
Both vehicles have paid to carry their designated weight and they do not run "combined and Token" tags. Counting on getting away with this is at your won risk, but makes a convincing agrument.
DOT won't care and you still pay the fine(s). You can appeal to the courts, but DOT is like the IRS, no appeal.
This is for Texas, I don't know about other states.

I understand
I have another trailer that I pull behind the 1 ton's. It is a 20000lb gvwr. I do not run it as dot since the truck has it's own weight limit ant the trailer has it's own. I am allowed to do this by the state of Texas DMV. The DOT disagrees, but their argument will not stand up in court. My point is that DOT will still fine me and there is noting I can do about it. There is no judge, they just implement a fine and I have to pay it. Ask me how I know.
