thanks for the heads up. these are really not that low of profile tires... 45 upfront and 40 in the rear.... new cars run similar. The rubber bands, I think are in the range of 20 / 25 profile. Either way... Yup... it is not your father's 50s pickup, though.

On the cage bars from the back of the cab...
The truck, at 60+ years old, has some interesting history. It used to be a 11-second drag truck, so it needed a six point cage. It was a 300+ cubic inch six cylinder alcohol burning (15 to 1 compression) engine.

that previous owner converted it to a street truck with a 390 V-8 and C6. I'm taking it beyond.

Cheers,

Doug

If you do decide to go autocrossing as you suggested in one of your post you will find that you will get much better handling out of a higher profile tire.

higher than 40 / 45 profile? If so, I'd respectfully disagree, but that isn't the point of this truck.

I might AX it out of curiosity, but not more. The bench seat would be a joke though for any high G cornering.

Sorry, but that is the results of significant proving ground testing on many pickups.

Ask my son what low profile is when hitting a pothole on a concrete highway at 65mph. The rim was wasted, non repairable. He was driving a 2000 BMW 323i w/ 50 series Michellins. My point was not to knock your choice but one for caution while driving a vehicle of a big weight with such a low profile tire

Hey Doug,
You have a truly great looking truck. Those pics with the tropical background look especially good this time of year! Don't drown out there - it's finally raining in your neck of the woods.

So, been making some progress for a change, LOL. Jag IFS is welded in and the Explorer rear end is approaching readiness to install. Today I built a wooden frame, attached some old wheels I had laying around, so I can move the cab around. Ready for a nice long winter of work in the garage!

That tire has a little bit too much patina on it

Absolutely no plans of painting it. Not sure how I will clear coat over the moss though, haha.

Started a build thread which right now is just a tear down thread.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...0-project.html

Plans: My Dad and I have yet to narrow down or agree on all of our plans so far. We have both agreed on not painting it, upgraded suspension & brakes. Pretty much a bunch of shiny bits covered up by the rusted body.
