Curious about the two pipes that look like they are coming out of the cab. Are they a roll bar? My father was a front end person and he always hated those rubber band tires, (as he called them). It is like you say they are your choice and that is what counts. Watch out for the chuck holes and rough roads, they are the rim repair guys best friend, my father made quite a good living once those wheel and tire combo came out.
On the cage bars from the back of the cab...
The truck, at 60+ years old, has some interesting history. It used to be a 11-second drag truck, so it needed a six point cage. It was a 300+ cubic inch six cylinder alcohol burning (15 to 1 compression) engine.
that previous owner converted it to a street truck with a 390 V-8 and C6. I'm taking it beyond.
Cheers,
Doug

[QUOTE=DW SD;14882636]thanks for the heads up. these are really not that low of profile tires... 45 upfront and 40 in the rear.... new cars run similar. The rubber bands, I think are in the range of 20 / 25 profile. Either way... Yup... it is not your father's 50s pickup, though./QUOTE]
If you do decide to go autocrossing as you suggested in one of your post you will find that you will get much better handling out of a higher profile tire.

higher than 40 / 45 profile? If so, I'd respectfully disagree, but that isn't the point of this truck.
I might AX it out of curiosity, but not more. The bench seat would be a joke though for any high G cornering.

[QUOTE=DW SD;14882678]Sorry, but that is the results of significant proving ground testing on many pickups.

Ask my son what low profile is when hitting a pothole on a concrete highway at 65mph. The rim was wasted, non repairable. He was driving a 2000 BMW 323i w/ 50 series Michellins. My point was not to knock your choice but one for caution while driving a vehicle of a big weight with such a low profile tire

Absolutely no plans of painting it. Not sure how I will clear coat over the moss though, haha.

Plans: My Dad and I have yet to narrow down or agree on all of our plans so far. We have both agreed on not painting it, upgraded suspension & brakes. Pretty much a bunch of shiny bits covered up by the rusted body.
