Dual tank conversion

Hi y'all

I got my short box sitting on my long box frame F150. Needs a few little mods to bolt into place but will work.

Parts truck that the box came off of, had a almost brand new rear fuel tank on it, and F150 has the front long tank, today I finished putting the cross member on the frame where the rear fuel tank will go.

All I wanna know is how would I go about wiring these 2 tanks with a factory switch on the dash?

On my diesel it's got a valve on the frame to switch from 1 tank to the other, but has a mechanical fuel pump, so since this EFI has in tank electric fuel pumps i'm not so sure....

After 1989 Ford did away with the fuel transfer valve and 3 pump system and just used high pressure in-tank pumps instead. The fuel lines are just connected together and you simply switch power to the tank you want to use, the in-tank modules have integrated check valves to prevent transfer between tanks.

3 pumps? Never seen a truck with 3 pumps. If your reffering to my diesel with the transfer valve, it's only got the mechanical fuel pump on the block, nothing in the tanks.

How would I go by wiring up to give power to 1 tank or the other with the switch?

Sorry, noob when it comes to electric fuel pumps, never had one before, heh never had an EFI engine before.

I was referring to the older gasoline trucks, they had a low presure pump in the tanks and a high pressure pump out on the frame, plus the diverter valve.. I thought you were aware but if not you are now.

Anyway.. as you may have guessed I suggest you steer away from this setup if at all possible, If your truck is 1990 or newer it will already have a high pressure pump inside the existing tank so all you got to do is install the second tank and T into the fuel lines.
Wiring is pretty simple, a 2-way switch brings power in on the middle contact and connects it to one of the other two contacts depending which position the switch is in, and these other two contacts feed power to the pumps. Ground is permanently attached from both pumps to the frame and doesn't go through the switch.

Oh wait hahah what the hell was I thinking, I remember seing something on the frame rail on the drivers side that said "High Pressure fuel"

The F150 is an 89. So the high pressure fuel thing on the frame is a fuel pump also? What the hell lol

Alright I'll have a look at it tomorrow, i'm heading at the scrap yard to get a fuel door and guts for it. And I'll look for a dash switch to put in my F150 at the same time. You might know the place since you live in Ottawa to, G&L auto wrecker in Navan.
