ZF5 Info for Clutch Fork
#17
I know 100% for a fact it's that. That creaking sound is unique to that particular problem. Whenever you push the clutch in, (whether the engine is running or not) it will make that creaking sound. It's caused by a worn clutch fork, pivot stud and lack of grease.
It makes that creaking sound because there's quite a bit of pressure applied to that clutch fork when it's releasing the clutch. So when it pivots on the stud it makes a creaking sound...
If I were to pull my fork and grease it, that sound would go away. But it would come back after a few thousand miles or so, because those are the original 23 year old parts that are worn out...

No I'm not forgetting the other moving parts... But I'm telling you, that sound is very distinctive to those parts. If it were the throw out bearing for example, it would make a different noise when the clutch is pushed in. If it's going to make any noise at all, it will usually only make it when the engine is running.
