Nice vehicles. My Uncle and Aunt who lived in British Columbia, back in the '60's had a '63 Ford station wagon with the 352 2 bbl...rated at 220 hp, if memory serves me correct. Think it was a light blue.

Not sure what C-O-M stands for ?

Here in LA LA Land: Slip and slide with Power-Glide.

The transmissions get up and go, got up and went!

I used to get a kick out of the popular names for cars, car parts...Chevy six...stovebolt.....std. transmission on the steering column...3 on the tree....on the floor...four on the floor..

I'm probably missing something, but I don't think we have 'modern' names for different vehicles, components, now. Maybe there are...I dunno.

Here's a couple, or so...

Chevrolet = Shove-it-or leave it / Shi*ty-lay.

Toyota = ToiLet-a.

Cadillac = Cattle-Hack.

Oldsmobile = Oldsmopile

Buick = PU-ick.

Chrysler = Chisler

Plymouth = PLY-mouth

Studebaker = Steadybreaker / Stupidbaker.

Packard = Backward

Mercury Mystique = Mercury Mistake

Edsel = Dead-Sell.

Dual Exhausts = twice pipes.

9" carrier = pumpkin.

Two rivals catch-phrases from the 19teens: You gotta be nuts to drive a Stutz / There's nothing worser than driving a Mercer.

btw: 1963/65 Econolines w/170 I-6's were available with the Dagenham 4 speed = FOUR on the tree!

Some great names from the past, some from the present. I didn't know the '63-63 Econolines had the English 4 speed transmission. Ford dealers up here, sold a few English Ford Thames, mostly I think to the local provincial Hydro (Electric) company in the early '60's The driver and the passenger doors would slide backwards and on hot summer days they would drive them around with the doors slid back..

I just picked up one of these chevys for nothin'. Everything is in decent shape just from glancing at it. The things I am missing are the connecting rod bolts, some main cap bolts, valve cover bolts I won't even try lookin for etc. Only 2 valves were stuck when checked which is awsome considering the whole engine was just sitting dis-assembled in a metal bin. The only things I know that needs work is the block deck and upper cylinder bores & crank journals. I haven't figured out the CID yet though since I haven't been able to measure the crank throw yet.

Numberdummy, my 61 Mercedes-Benz 220Sb had 4 speed column shift, a lot of the old Benzes did. The wierdest one I ever drove was my sister's 64 Alfa-Romeo Guilia TI, it was a european model and had a 5 speed column shift. 1st was where reverse would be on a 3spd. 2nd would be 1st, 3rd would be 2nd, 4th would be 3rd, and 5th was toward the dash, then up inline with 1st and 3rd. Reverse was same plane, but pull out on the lever than down in the 2nd and 4th plane.

I knew about the M-B's because I once owned a 1958 219 with the "lovely" Hydrac, and a 1959 220S Cabriolet.

All the ID, DS and DS Pallas Citroens had 4 on the tree as well.

The DS Pallas 4 speeds are Citroen-Matic...a 4 speed without a clutch.

The shift lever itself when moved acts as the clutch, this is also the same operation as the M-B's with Hydrac.

The TR-3's, other Triumphs (like the Mayflower) with 3 or 4 on the floor never "Americanized" the gear selector (shift lever).

In other words, it's set up for RHD on a LHD car, so every gear is bassackwards!

I didn't know that about the 3 speed Triumphs. I had a TR4A with the electric OD 4 speed that was "Americanized." Was the TR3 the last year for the 3 speed here?

Dunno much about the TR-3's.

When I was in High School I worked part time on weekends and two summers at the local Mercedes-Benz/Studebaker/Packard dealer, and some of the M-B trade-ins were wierdo's.

A TR-3 with the bassackwards shift lever, a Triumph Mayflower that had a lever on the outside of the fuel pump which allowed the pump to be manually operated.

I drove this pile to the local DMV once and the fuel pump gave out. The dealer sent a mechanic...we ended up getting the car back with him driving, me laying over the fender pumping that fuel pump lever up and down!

My favorite odd ball pile was a 1957 Wartburg, a POS made in East Germany.

If it ran..it was a miracle and I'll never forget what the ignition switch bezel had printed on it: FAHRT!
