1960 F100 4X4 and 4X2 Leaf Springs
#16
Thanks for the reply and the advice. I figured I would get the "good luck" response. I know the early factory 4x4s are scarce enough, but then there are the parts....
I appreciate the tip on getting involved with some old truck clubs. I am subscribed to a few online forums dealing with old trucks and those connections and leads are always helpful.
For the time being, I will keep my eyes out for a set of factory brackets in order to try and save some of the fabrication effort. The brackets are repairable, but I would like to try and preserve the "factory" appearance which might be difficult when going the fabrication route.
Thanks again for the input and reply.

Jonathon; Thats a good looking fridge!
You may want to contact some of these guys that are converting to CV front ends and entice them into knocking the rivets out of their brackets for fee. It would be interesting to see the differences between the 4x2 and the 4x4 brackets? Dark siders are not all bad.
Good luck in your quest!

I don't know the difference between the brackets yet. I am still researching. Another mentioned they were different part number, but same dimensions. I would assume maybe they would be taller to make clearance for the pumpkin under the oil pan? I dunno.

Thanks. I will keep on the alert for possible removals from update projects.

I had no idea the only difference was the bolt hole size. I had gotten busy over last few weeks and had not gotten to the bottom of it yet. I will begin looking for both numbers. I know of a 2WD near by at a junk yard. I should go check that out as well.
Thanks again!

Just picked up a 1960 F250 factory 4x4. It is fairly complete and in restorable condition, but the front spring rear brackets are in bad shape.
Looks as though maybe the bushing went bad, then the springs rode directly on the bolt until the bolt got thin enough to fail. Looks like it was run like that for some time. It came off a farm, so there is bond to be some carnage I suppose.
I am looking for the 1959/60 F100/250 4WD Front Spring REAR brackets: B9TT-5340-A
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Thank you for posting this. Sorry for the late reply. Work has been busy and I hadn't had much time to get on forums for project work.
I purchased two of the brackets from GREEN SALES. Got them in the mail a few weeks ago. Exact match except the spring eye bolt hole just as you all have said.
I do have a follow on question though. I am fairly certain the spring cap (5A316) is warped or bent to some degree. I recently splurged on a 3 book set of Ford Truck Parts catalogs but when I look up 5A316 in the text it only lists for '61?
Any help on a '60 application would be very appreciated.

Nick,
Thanks for the information. I appreciate it.
The part I'm actually having trouble with is the 5A316 which is the bracket that the U-Bolts go through and in-effect clamps the axle housing of the front axle to the bottom of the leaf spring.
I should have done a better job taking a picture of the book.
Thanks for chiming in as I know this was originally your thread.

I believe the spring pack clamp is a 5330 which is part of the spring 5310.
I see 5A316 as its own separate item and not inclusive to 5330.
Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

Jonathan; Do you need the driver side or the passenger side? They are different sizes. the one for the DS has a hole spread of ~5" PS ~4". The part # stamped in the parts are--
DS== B9TT-5442-B
PS== B9TT-5A500-A
A quick web check found nothing for either number.
I know you're working on a 1960 and some changes were made to the front axle during the 60 period. But just thought this might help!

Don't be so quick to think the rear brackets are junk. I also have a 1960 f250 4x4 and the brackets from the factory look like they have been repaired on a farm. Mainly what looks like washers welded on the side of the bracket. That is factory ford 4x4 washer welding on the sides of the bracket from what I have seen.
