3.55 or 3.73 or 4.10 ? F250

Well found nice F250 to replaced my 95 F250.

it 2wd HD with 351W plus E40D. Bad thing it have 4.10 in axle. Talk to owner he say HIGHEST mpg he gotten 14 with 2-3K of brick equipments plus ladder rack. He say mostly it 8-10 mpg.

I was think 3.55 but after drive 96 E350 passenger with 3.55 seem tough but van weight 9k pound. It get 12 mpg city and 16-18 mpg HWY

Do anyone know what mpg they get with 3.55 or 3.73?

I got around 12 city 13.5 highway in both of my f150's with 351's. One was 3.55 and the other 3.08 rear. I would say that with the E40D's overdrive, you should be able to do better than 8-10 mpg, even with 4.10 gears. What do you plan on using the truck for?

My '92 F350 4x4 w/5.8L and E4OD gets 10 MPG highway running 70 MPH and 12 MPG running 65 MPH. It has 3.55 gears and 33 inch tires. Those MPGs were with the truck running unloaded on level ground.

Why it got 8-10 mpg it have almost 3,000 pounds of brick equipments and tons of wood stalk on it. It kind sag. bed fender is about 2" from rear tire.

my 95 F250 are worst on gas no matter how I drive slow it never got 11 above mpg.

That truck would be use for tow trailers not daily just couple times a year. Haul welder generator and some tools.

I would prefer it to have 4.10 since it won't lug when towing or in OD on the highway. What size tires are on it?

Even if it had different gears like 3.55 or 3.73 the mpg would still be around 10 or 12.

I believe it 235/75/16 but it stock tires size.

Have 95 F250 with 4.10 here it definably worst combined with 351W E40D It was way slow and doesn't make difference while Van with 3.55.

Try drive highway. Top speed would be 65 mph if try above gas gauge moving to E faster than Van that cruise 80 mph.

I think that 4.10s with OD is a good combination especially for the larger trucks. There is something weird going on if top speed would be 65 if it has OD? Maybe I am missing something.

I can see that. I think you will be happier with 3.73 then.

If you tow much with it I think you'll really wish you had 4.10 though.

With my pickup, run 80 mph, it gets 10 mpg, drop it down to 75, it gets 12-13. Next trip, I'm goin to drop down to 70 and see if it goes up anymore. I think a lot of it has to do with how hard your running. Speed wise, faster you go worse milage.

I think wind resistance would hurt mileage much more than gearing would, if you have an OD transmission.
