99 Expedition Windshield or Cowl Leak
HI everyone,
Had my windshield replaced Jan '10 because water was getting onto my GEM and fuse panel...
Had a downpour of rain for the first time this weekend... Expedition still leaks. Fuse panel was wet again...???
Can this Expedition be leaking from somewhere else? It is a rust free truck, only 128K on it, no accidents, perfectly clean vehicle...
Are cowls on this vehicle a problem??? Some sort of body seam???
The water is definitely coming from way up under the dash.
Thanks

AutoGlass center has the cowl cover off right now. He ran water down the front of the windshield for 30 minutes. Then ran water directly into the cowl... He simply can not get the problem to duplicate.
I was there watching and NO water is getting under dash now... Of course it has not been raining here for 24 hours straight so i cant prove it to him...
We are stumped.
If anyone has had a leaky cowl or body seam on a 99 Exp please let me know... I dont know what the problem is.
Thanks,
Hank

Try this...turn the heater blower to high (not MAX A/C) and close all windows and doors. This will mildly pressurize the cabin. Then either use a spray bottle or a sponge to apply a soapy water solution around the windshield. If it's leaking you will see air bubbles.
Do you have a moonroof?

Sorry, I neglected to answer. No, I do not have a moonroof....
And it only gets wet under the dash on the driver side kick panel wall... nowhere else....
The winshield doesn't show leaks from the top or on the pillar...?
Maybe i can use a flourescent powder or something that reacts to water and can show me a little better where it is originating from???

Hmm, maybe the front cowl drain is clogged. That's the area at the bottom of the windshield with the slotted air intake openings. I've seen the drains in those clog up and then they fill up and spill over everywhere.
