Need Help On a Diesel

Hey guys,
Sorry I have not been on in a long while. I have been to busy with work, the new house and trying to get my poor truck to run. I had bad fuel 6 bad injectors, bad idm, bad ipr, and now a hole in the #5 piston.
So now I am asking for your guys help, I am looking for a replacement motor for a reasonable deal without braking the bank. The guy who has been helping me said that the ford reman motors weren't very good and way over priced. I still would like to build a strong reliable truck with no extra holes in the motor, any suggestions who be very appreciated.

Wish I could help but, I'm new to Diesels. And haven't had to build one yet. THANK GOD!!!

But, thought I'd offer you some moral support and wish you "good luck" with your engine build.

I'd highly recommend you go to the diesel forums on this site. I'm there a lot. Those guys should be able to help you out. Didn't your "hole" turn out to be bent pushrods, or was that someone else?

That was me I did have a very very slight bend in a push rod but that wasn't the problem. After I did the compression test I found that #5 had no compression. So now I'm looking for a new motor.

Cool thanks guys. I am kinda looking at a used motor from Brannex in Albuquerque he said he could find a motor out of a wrecked truck and install it for $3100. He said his motors on average have about 150,000 miles on them and I think he said they are warranted for 60 days if I remember right. Does this sound like a good deal and have any of you guys delt with this guy to see if he does good work?

I called Brannex once about an IDM so I could mod it up to 140V but he wanted too much. Seemed like a reputable guy though. I'd say if you drive it a lot in those 2 months and have no troubles you should be good. With good maint most 7.3L problems are able to be handled by most average wrench turners who can read this forum! While he's in there, have him replace the dual mass flywheel with a solid one and get one of those clutches recommended by Cody on the 94.5-97 PSD forum. Cody is in TX now but hails from Edgewood. I can't remember the brand of clutches but use Cody's name and he'll get you a discount.

What are your other choices for a motor?

If i don't go woth brannex then I probably will go with riff raff diesel they sell a crate motor but it is going to run me $6000 just to get the motor, then I have to install it. Those motor come with a 2 year warranty. I think I am going to go with the used motor for now and I already have a solid mass fly wheel but mine is the one from napa and it is noise as all hell.

Here's a link to a good place to get a clutch. If you like them, contact Rubber Duck (Cody) on the 94.5-97 forum and get his OK to use his name for a discount.
