Is this the back light in a laptop monitor? If so you can get the parts and do it yourself.

If its a 2 in 1 power supply/invertor board its going to cost more. In most cases its usually just a little board with a plug on each end. Might not be worth fixing if its just a standalone lcd monitor. You can get them cheap nowadays. If its a laptop then thats a different story.

it is a standalone monitor and I believe its a 2 in 1. I know to replace it will cost at minimum of 100 buck depending on what brand I buy so I figured I need to check on repairing it..

If you can fix it yourself would be cool, prob cost you 100 bucks to have somebody fix it.

It would be nice to do it myself or get lucky enough to find someone who does it on the side so it will be cheaper...

Just open it up and get value of the power supply caps and get them at Radio Shack. Remove old ones - install new one (observe polarity) - it'll be better than new!

Electronic Illiterate? I feel your pain Brian! I'm good to go if I can get a wrench on it, but I start scratching my head when I can't see it. Those electrons are just too darned small for my eyes and I can't get my fat fingers around them either.....!
