How to lite up a junk digital odometer
Curious if there's an easy way to turn on a digital odometer in a junked Econoline to see how many miles are on the partzer? Seem to recall that the mileage is stored in the computer, not the gauge cluster. While in a U-Pull junkyard there can be a choice between multiple Econolines so it would be good to know if one has low & another high mileage.

Well of course, its a no-brainer that you'd need a power source to light up an Econoline digital odometer. Perhaps I needed to mentioned that junked partzers in junkyards are usually partially dismantled, missing parts & w/o ignition keys?
Does anyone know if the mileage is stored in the computer or dash cluster? Obviously if one of these is missing its critical to know which?
There's a good chance that the digital odometer circuit uses a reduced voltage, not 12V. This means its critical to know which voltage.
My question is how to patch into the stored mileage if the memory is still in the van. If the mileage is in the computer & the gauges are missing could you BYO? If the mileage is stored in the gauge cluster can you light the display in a bench test? If lots of wiring is messed up/missing how to isolate the odometer circuit?
Thought maybe some of the 'tuners' or Fault Code Readers might display mileage? Again the issue of wiring harnesses being messed up means you may well need to isolate.

It is NOT, NOT, NOT, stored in the vehicles computer. It's stored in the PSOM on the back of the cluster. I tried to fire one up outside of the vehicle a few days ago and couldn't get it to work. It needed signal from something else apparently, such as the seed sensor.
It will fire up with only the center plug plugged in though, that's how I found out how many miles were on the cluster I bought.
