Battery pack rebuilding

How many of us have cordless tools laying around with batteries that won't hold a charge? And buying a new battery costs almost as much as just buying a new tool.

I watched a presentation last night by the owners of West Coast Battery Rebuilders and thought I would share with the chapter. They will rebuild your battery packs better than new for a fraction of the cost.

For example, a 14.4 volt Dewalt battery rebuild = $32. A new battery from Home Depot might cost $90. Since they are in Anaheim, the shipping cost is not a factor.

I have no affiliation, but I was impressed with the guys. Check them out.

Sweet....I've got a group of old 14.4 Milwaukee batteries that could use some TLC.

Thanks Bill...that'll save a few bones for sure

I didn't discover until today that they do this out of their home. Which means you can't just drop by their shop. They prefer you ship them. I am going to find out if I can drop them off by appointment.

I would prefer that myself....I don't think I can come up with 150 bucks worth of batteries to get free shipping.

This is great, I have two batteries I have avoided replacing. I'll be checking these guys out.

I went to Interstate Batteries to have mine rebuild.

The new battery packs have slightly higher capacity.

They recommended to have the batteries re-condition every few months and for free.

So far so good.

They are significantly less expensive than the rebuilders I have been using in Pennsylvania for my DeWalt packs, including shipping.

They look to be using the same cells as the other guys, so being local, they'll undoubtedly be getting my next business.

Bill, how did you happen to be at their presentation last night?

I'm a member of Woodworkers of Whittier. They were our program for the night. I understand they have been a favorite of the Orange County Woodworkers club for a while, but this was the first I had heard of them.

Wonder if they are willing to travel as far as a SFV woodworker's club meeting for a similar talk.

Pretty sure they would. In fact we emailed each other yesterday and he asked if there were any other groups that would be interested. The guys name is Wayne. Give him a call.

The link seems dead. I Googled them and the link they have doesn't work either. Can someone check and see if it's still up? Maybe all this extra business killed them! Thanks, Jim

Hmmm, yeah it's dead for me too. They should be calling me this week to let me know an order is finished. I'll report back how it goes.
