BUYER BEWARE: Mickey Thompson ATZ Radials

If your trying to make up your mind about a tire, BEWARE of Mickey Thompson! I have a set of 4 Mickey Thompson ATZ 375/65 R16 Radials with 10K miles tops on them and they were manufactured in 2006. Well, one has developed a leak, so I pulled it off to find the leak. What I found was 4 cracks starting from the sidebiter going towards the rim. The crack that is leaking is approx. 3 inches long! The other 3 vary in length from ½ inch to 2 inches.

Anyway, I call Mickey Thompson this morning and first talk to Kevin. He takes my info and transfers me to Jeremy….which tells me if I’m not the original owner, THERE IS NO WARRANTY! Keep in mind these tires cost $400+ EACH…..not to mention the Mickey Thompson rims that were purchased at the same time and everything is less than 4 years old.

Anyone who knows me knows I baby my truck. I don’t go muddin, I don’t drag race and I do the speed limit. There is no reason why a tire would start seperating in 10,000 miles with proper inflation, proper care and use.

Anyway, if your trying to make up your mind which tire you want to buy, you may want to find another tire that Mickey Thompson.

I'm not sure, but I think the MTZ's are the newer ones. Either way, I would check out your tires on a regular bases.

I have 3 vehicles and this is the one we drive the most. I would have hated to have one of those big suckers blow out going down the highway.

Seems as though there was a recall on the tires and the description fits it to a tee.

Yeah, I never thought I would have to replace my tires until they were worn out.

They don't even make that tread pattern(ATZ) anymore....and the size (375/65 R16) is getting harder & harder to find. I'm old school when it comes to this stuff I guess. I like a good 16 inch wheel and lots of rubber. I don't like the new look.

When I was shopping for my mud terrains, a guy at Tire Max told me to stay away from Mickey's because they were hard to balance and took lots of weights to get them right. Guess they are cheapos.

Eddie that sucks! I seen a guy the otherday I went and put a mirror on his truck(nonFTE member) had some 315 ATZs with 60K on them and they wore great. BUT still with that size that could be the issue the dang quality of the tire must have really went down. You should look at the Kelly Fierce Attiudes or the Kelly Safari tires great patterns and they are priced great
