'78 F150 300I6 air cleaner help
I don't think the air cleaner that is on my truck is stock, since after removing it to rebuild the carburetor (Carter 1bbl) I cannot get it to go back on right. When I took the carb off, it had a spacer that I did not replace - but it still didn't seem to fit right before removing the carb.
I decided to go to O'Reilly's and get an open-face air cleaner. Problem is, the only one that they had that would fit my tiny carb doesn't have anyplace for the PCV hose that comes off the oil fill cap to go to. I also bought a filtered oil cap, but I'm still not sure what to do.
My question is, since this engine has a PCV valve on the back of the valve cover, can I put another one on the oil cap? If so, do I need to run a hose from that to something? If not, what would I run a bigger hose to? Or should I take this air cleaner back?

i bought one for my truck too. it is a 4 inch filter (i think)
i just ran the tube from the pvc to the outlet on the adapter below the carb.
it is an aluminum part that houses the egr,and has like four fittings for hoses.
i think that i had to make a reducer for the hose to fit though.
and i took a air pressure gauge that has a adjustable dial on it to reduce the vacume pull on the pvc.
the port on it had way more vacume that the air cleaner did, and i was sucking oil out of the valve cover.
so i put the gauge on it so i could dial it in.
then take a zip strip and secure it to something .
mine has been like that for 15 years.
just remember to change that filter more often. it is smaller than stock and is not covered by any thing so it gets dirty quicker and will rob fuel mileage when its dirty.

mine is not a cali modle either but it does have an egr. or it did.
there is a plate of 7/16 aluminum there now.
i cut it to shape drilled the two mounting holes .
and used a piece of 600 grit sand paper taped to a thick plate of glass, and flatened it and made a gasket so no more egr.
both my 78 and 79 are that way.
even if yours does not have an egr it will have that aluminum spacer with the vac ports.
