manifold and 4 bbl carb?

I am rebuilding a 302 with a 2 bbl carb. I would like to install a 4 bbl carb with a new manifold, any suggestions. I am worried about the height of new manifold and carb being too tall. Currently with present setup there is no room between hood and air cleaner. Also is it necessary for the spacer between the manifold and carb i currently have.

Edelbrock 2121 intake and Edelbrock 500cfm idealy or 600cfm if a street ride, mild angle trail ride. If offroading use the same intake and a Holley 470 cfm, more forgiving for off roading.

They're diff as night and day in design, but the float arrangement of the Holley is better suited for off roading. They are also more easily modded to improve for off roading too. It's like the Ford vs Chev debate. I prefer the Edelbrock for easy changes in the setup, but on my six cyl build went with the Holley due to the fact Edelbrock doesn't make one small enough in cfm.

X2 on the Holley 470 Truck Avenger. I run a Quadrajet on mine but have the clearance w/ a 2" body lift. I've heard good things about the Holley TA. Guys seem to like'em w/ their good offroad performance. The Edelbrocks don't like the off camber stuff all that much and will tend to flood out... Had one before the Q-jet swap on my 302.

Turn that Qjet around backwards and it will perform even better offroad when going uphill.

Well, if it ain't broke, why mess w/ it? The thing runs like an injected rig now and I've had it in some pretty precarious places! I've heard that before (about turning it around) but really can't imagine improving on it's performance as it sits now. I've really been impressed w/ it.

Dito's on using Q-jets..thats all i use and have been for years..Rochester was way ahead of the curve when they desinged that one. Autolite 4100 is another thats low profile and exellent for small fords. They can be tuff to find but they are a snap to rebuild and super easy to adjust.

The addition of a matching performance cam along with the 4V intake and carb will really wake it up.

I have limited hood clearance in my Mustang II,(even with the 4" cowl) and I'm running a Victor manifold which is quite tall, so I found an old aluminum air cleaner assembly made by Moroso, which is very low profile. It's the best limited-clearance design I've seen yet. You could check into it and see if Moroso still offers it.

You can use a vintage Edelbrock 289 manifold it will clear stock hood.

Or just throw a 1.5" body lift on it = good to go
