Antenna options

I am in the process of shaving the door handles and a few other body mods on my 74. I want to eliminate the antenna and am curious if anybody has an ideas? I am thinking of frenching one in somewhere else or using a hidden antenna. Any opinions or advice?

Interested, I hate antenna's and wonder the same. Let's hear some ideas guys!

I was thinking of eliminating it and getting satellite radio and using that, but I dont really use the truck enough to warrant a monthly fee!

I put mine in the roof, just get an extension cable from radio shack and passed it through the headliner.

Try this: The Hoffman Group - Autoloc - Hidden Antenna Kit

I've heard really good things about these from all my car show buddies. There is even a link to the instruction sheet on that web page. This company (autoloc) also has accuators and all and kinds of other goodies for your shaved handles and everything else, check em out.

I have looked at the Hoofman Autoloc stuff on the net. It appears to be decent, but I would like to talk to somebody who has actually used it to see what they think.

The one I ran in my bronco was a cheapo but it was great, it mounts to the windshield, or, anywhere you want it to I've come to discover, and it's 12v amplified, if I remember correctly, it was small enough for you to mount it to the roof and re-assemble your headliner with no issues.

I bought that antenna from autozone for another truck I owned. It worked fine in town, not so well in the outer limits. I do not know the brand but it looked identical and was half the price.
I have also done as stated by laying the antenna in the gap above the windshield under the headliner. That works pretty well.
My old 63 ranchero was a manual push/pull antenna that used a key to lift the antenna. You could french it in on the drivers side cab where the gas caps used to go. When you get somewhere you push the antenna all the way in and nobody can mess with it.

Yeah my friends with customs either ran their antennas laying in the crack between the windshield and the dash board or ran them back and put them under the headliner by the back window. One thing about antennas though, is that they do better when they are on a big piece of metal that acts like a satellite dish. So even the best antenna isn't gonna do as good inside on a piece of glass.
