05 F150 misfire rich exhaust smell

My 05 F150 has major problems. Started about 7 mts ago. Had a misfire code. I changed the plugs broke off #2 and #8 in the head. Took the truck to the shop and had broken plugs removed. Truck had a terrible miss. Took truck to Ford. Ford replaced coil boots, said coils on #2 and #6 were bad. Had them replaced still had a terrible miss. Ford said need fuel filter and cat converters so they replace them, and truck still had a terrible miss. I took the truck to another dealer and they said #2 and #8 were misfiring. They replaced the plugs and coils in 2 and 8 and the truck ran ok for about a month then, two new codes appeared, #2 misfire and bank 1 rich. So I replaced all the injectors and ordered new coils from summitt. I put the new coils on and the truck would barely run because I had multiple misfires. The test run was about 3 miles and I was beginning to wonder if I was going to make it home. Pulled off coils and sent them back and got new Accel coils. Truck ran smoother but now there is a strong odor of rich exhaust when the truck is at idle after is has warmed up. I still get an occasional misfire code on #2 and multiple misfires at high rpm's. Just a side note I have had a terrible ticking noise from the RH side of the engine around #2 cylinder. I have narrowed it down to lash adjusters but the tool to change them is on backorder and I haven't recieved it yet. Ticking is present at all rpm's and all operating temps. Can someone please help me wrap my brain around everything that on on with my truck. Thanks

That ticking is the cam phasers. Do you have any codes?

phaser noise

I'm very unfamilar with the modular engines, but the ticking is present at all rpm's and all temps. I have been told that the phaser only makes noise when rpm's are under 1200 and when the oil is warm, and the noise seems more from the middle of the valve cover, not the front. I plan to tear into this weekend and check things out. Is there a way to visually inspect the phaser and see if that is the problem? Also, any suggestions on the rich smell of exhaust inside the cab at idle?

stuck injector

Already replaced all injectors. If it misfires it's always on #2 and injectors didn't resolve rich exhaust smell. Here's a list of what I've done.

Replaced all plugs (Twice in the last 5000 miles)
New coils (Twice in the last 5000 miles)
New injectors (All of them)
New PCV and Valve cover (Drivers side)

and new lash adjustors pending arrival of tool.

Are there control modules or sensors that tell the injectors when to fire? If so where are they? Or does the PCM contol all that?

I would love to take the truck to ford and tell them to just fix it but I'm already about $2000 deep with them and everytime I get it back I have a new problem.

rich exhaust

Here's my thinking. I've change plugs, coils, and injectors. Misfire is always on cyl 2. Truck is running rich on Bank 1. I'm thinking with all my in and out on this truck that I could have crimped a wire along the way that is A) causing the truck to misfire at times or B) causing the injector to stick open and run rich. The only problem with "A" is if there is a misfire then fuel supply to that cylinder should be cut of to avoid excess fuel in the combustion chamber which can lead to washing out a cylinder or runing a cat converter. With B) if the injector was still sticking open then it would load up on fuel in that cylinder possible causing a misfire. Since cylinder 2 is on bank 1 and bank one seems to run rich, I believe it is something controlling the fuel injector. So is there a particular module or sensor that controls each individual injector, or is it the PCM? Would a damaged wire going to the injector cause the injector to stick open or will it cause it to shut competely down? Should I look at 02 sensors? Any takers

found problem

Tore my valve cover off this weekend. Found the answer to my problems. Apparently the top of the lash adjuster broke off and the plunger is missing. This sent the rocker arm flying off to the side of the cam, wearing groves in the cam. Looks like I also have a messd up valve or valve spring. So I'm looking at a new cam, new lash adjusters, new valve springs, etc. I'm looking a the possibility of just replacing the entire head. Can anyone tell me where the casting number is located on the head?
