motor swap (wiring concern)

Howdy y'all, nephew n' I are doing a motor swap. Dentsides all the way,1973 360-390 motor to a '78 300 inline 6. We got the 300 out of an 80's model econo van, put it in the '78, but now we want to put the 300 into the f350 and take the 360-390 n' put into the '78 f150. I think they both used to have a.c., but not anymore. Just wanting to know if there are any major problems that we're up against? Yes, we'll snap some photos for everyone to observe. This will be fun n' we want to share it with everyone. Cause that's what FTE.com is all about yah, woo, yah!!! Thanks for all your help n' suggestions...

Welp, I am "THE CRAZED1!! I totally apologize about the photos and update with this project. It's just that my family and I began going through the transition of moving (Bought another home). I do have some photos that I need to post on here. We have learned alot about this type of swap. Since we went from an inline 6cyl, plus manual tranny, plus transfercase, to a v8 out of an '83 e150 / non-4wheel. Hmmm, there were alot of surprises for us. Since we're goin from i6 to v8, the tranny had to be swapped, well we didn't know that we needed a tranny that jived w/4whl, so at the boneyard, we exchanged 1st tranny for an automatic c6 applicable tranny, and we had to swap-out the transfercase as well since we went from manual to automatic. We are still having some issues with this project. Example: Space for Radiator (gap between motor and radiator is too narrow), got an idea though w/ the electric fan out of a p.o.s. '98 pontiac van. I'll post other issues as we encounter them.

I just wanted to touch on this post a little bit at this point since I really do have alot going on at the moment. My job right now is to be looking for work ( my depatrment was permanently shut-down), trying to downsize while moving , including my fleet of DENTSIDES (storage space was eliminated n' "REALLY SUCKS!!" but I did gain a 2car garage out of the deal, "WAY-COOL"), parting out a P.O.S. PONTIAC VAN, Oh, and beginning classes for 2yr degree in HVAC at the age of 36yrs.

I appreciate y'alls patience with me on this one. May God-Bless you all, n' for Pete's sake, the CRAZED1 says, "B-GOOD"...

Somehow I missed your original posting, could have saved you a little trouble on the trans front, as FE motors don't share bells with any other Ford line. The motor towers are different on the 6 cylinder motors, which moves them back a little, but if you can get the space by going electric, that would be better than having to do driveshafts as well...

??Photos? How to post them?

Ah, quick question! How do I get my photos on here to share with y'all? I thought that I would see an attach icon or something and I don't. I tried to copy and paste and that didn't work so I'm stuck. I do see the insert image icon, but I don't know what it means when it asks for the URL of image... The photos are just saved to my computer, and on memstick.

If someone can help with this I'd greatly appreciate it, Thanks...

Motor Swap Update / Clearification

Since I was in the middle of moving and doing 2 motor swaps all at the same time, I had to make some decissions as to sell my '73 1ton or keep parts off of it like the rear axle-dumpbed w/hydrolics and use'em to beef up my '79 f150.

As posted originally, Nephew and I were attempting swapping motors and tranny from the '78 f150 4x4 (i6 300) into '73 f350 RWD (360-390)...Big problems all the way. So, we went to bone yard and grabbed a 351w, c6 tranny and transfercase. We cleaned / painted up the motor and dropped it into the '78 f150. We still have some ends to tighten-up....

So, this project went from "We'll do this!" to "What the heck are we doing?" to "Alright this is what we need to do..."

Oh, and there is nomore wire concern. I apologize that this thread has been out of sequence, and should be on track from here on out.

Thanks for your patience!

To get pics up, you can upload them to your garage (through user control panel) or set up an account with a pic hosting site like Photobucket and link to it. That is why it asks the url... don't know a way to load it direct from your computer to the thread.

Ay, thanks guys!! I'll give it a shot when I get a chance. Being a long day for me, I thought that I'd just check in and read my e-mails. Together, we'll figure it out one way or the other.. So, be good and good-nite.......
