460 lost oil press

well my 77 4x4 250 lost oil press yesterday still runs but dash gauge stays at 0 when warm.
my question is i have a rebuilt 400 that i can put in but do i need 400 perches to put in back in? the 460 was in it when i bought it.
and will perches from 77 2wd work?
also how should i rebuild c6 since engine is out stock or mild build

thanks paul
also found local co. who will make me 4inch lift springs for 400 front and back . should i get them with military wrap or not, truck is used for hauling and towing

have you put an oil pressure gauge on to the motor it's self to see if it is just the dash gauge? maybe the dash gauge just gave it up

Yup, probly just the guage, my 73, 460 did the same thing only when warmed up. I reasoned that the lifters would have lost pressure and it'd be clattering, not to mention the engine would have stopped rather abruptly. I drove it for about six months like that. Check it with a mechanical guage.

My 460 did the same , lost it's pressure all of a sudden and it was the sending unit at fault. If you had good pressure and it just went away quickly it is usually an indication problem and not in the engine, plus the sending unit is under 20 bucks and 5 mins to change.

i would suspect the sending unit or the guage went bad if the motor still runs without making noise. Back in high school, i drove the old family cruizer to school ('74 Ford Galaxy 500 w/ 400 engine) I drove that thing 2+ years with the oil light on!!! Ran like a champ - over 160,000miles and didn't burn or leak a drop of oil. Wish I still had that engine.

according to the 1978 truck shop manual, the 460 should have 40-65# of hot oil pressure at 2,000RPM
