96 F150 4.9l 5spd. 4x4, Put milemarker manual hubs on about 2 months ago. Was backing up a snow mound in 4lo the other day and heard something click really loud. now when i put the left front hub in free it stays locked. also when i turn the front driveshaft by hand neither of the front shafts turn. 4 wheel drive does not work at all now. I'm guessing that something is messed up inside the front diff. any guesses on what it is?
So you're saying... with the hubs an t-case unlocked you can rotate the front driveshaft several revolutions by hand and the side axles don't move? Can't say I have ever seen a front diff fail like that but anything is possible.
Kinda sounds like the spider gears went south,And u probably blew a lockout. Like conanski said if u turn the front driveshaft and the axles dont turn with everything unlocked, its inside the diff. If they do turn, even just one its probably lockout
So I'm guessing that I will have to take the whole front end apart to figure this out? That means I will have to take the suspension and everything apart becuase its twin I beam... that should be fun.
U shouldnt have to tear out the whole front end, but u will have to pull the axle shafts and driveshaft. Then unbolt the diff from the front bolts and that diff is heavy
i thought i would have to pull out clips inside the diff. to pull the axles out. thats how it is for the rear so how do i go about pulling the shafts out?
So the driver's side just pulls out once i take the hub off?
Take the hubs/snap rings and everything out. Pull the caliper and rotor off. Next, unbolt the spindle and take it off. After that, the axle should slide out.
I'm looking at a solid axle off a 79 f250. anyone know if this will bolt up to my truck. looks like all it comes with is the leaf springs and hubs/ rotors/ calipers.
3.50 to 3.55 is fine unless you wanna drive around it 4x4 on dry concrete which would break stuff anyways.
as for the 79 fitment, i dont know if 150's in 79 came with leafs, i thought they were all coil's. But maybe its just the broncos. If its leafs you just have to make a bracket for the front leaf spring mounts, and use stock rear brackets fliped over with a shackle.
Theres alot of guys on here that can tell you exactly what you need.
