Great write-up. Sounds like Ford has played their hand on this one. They do have to overcome diesel engine issues of the past in order to properly market this beast.

It also appears that the SD is way over built when equipped with the gasser, that's a good thing.

With the improved towing capacity, I'm assuming that a CDL is needed at about the 26K pound point. Commercial Driver's License Program (CDL/CDLIS) - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

I too am anxious to see some new sheet metal on the SD line.

I ...want....one.....

and I quote.....
"Performance shouldn't be an issue. If it is, you belong in a medium-duty truck because Ford has boosted the Super Duty's trailer-towing ratings so high that we're at the point where a standard F-350 one-ton pickup with the 6.7-liter diesel and a middle-of-the-road 3.73 rear axle requires a commercial drivers license to pull its maximum-rated trailer, depending on the state in which you live. That used to be "Tow Boss" special package territory, or it meant moving up to a mighty F-450 pickup"

Reading that article almost makes me want one...

The new 6.7 is very promising in the power and fuel economy department, who needs a tuner with power and mileage like that!

I will say that they definitely miss the V10 as much if not more than the V10 guys do. I also agree that the 6.2 is grossly underpowered for the Super Duty and that there is plenty of room for more. Hopefully Mike at 5-Star already has a handle on the 6.2...

Anyone know why the V10 is being 86'd.
Everyone seems to love them...

There is no such thing as overbuilt imo.

Never thought I see the day when a 400 horsepower pickup truck is "grossly underpowered".

suks to hear early reviews already saying the 6.2 isnt enuf motor to compete vs the exiting 6.8...

you know other reviews and of course the other brands will be quick to point that out..

they really should have had the 6.2 as teh base motor and rebeefed the 6.8 as a mid option, and of course have the 6.7 Deisel.

still if i could afford a new truck i'm sure i'd own that 6.2 with the biggest gears you can get. and be knocking on 5stars door..haah

In the F150 Raptor, it is a 400hp+ motor, but in the Super Duty it's a mere 385 HP and 405 ft-lb of torque. Whereas the mighty V10 put out 362 HP and 457 ft-lb of Torque and seemed to do a better job even with one less gear in the transmission.

Those numbers are for the 3V V10. The '00-'04 2V V10 was 310HP/425TQ so I guess that falls into the grossly underpowered realm as well. And the '99 was even worse.

Is the 6.2L underpowered? Maybe in your opinion. Grossly underpowered? C'mon now, grossly?

I betcha the 6.2L with 4.30s and that new trans would be a blast to drive.

I kinda wish we would get a 7.5L+ V10 or V12 gas or diesel. It would be cool to be able to say that you have engine that approaches the power made by Ferrari, Mercedes, and Lamborghini.

Of course I don't think anyone at the EPA would allow such a thing to thought of let alone be built.

Ah I see! Only 385hp. What a slug!

Bwahahahahahahahah!

385 HP is underpowered!

Like it or not, it would outpull your "mighty" V10. That 22 HP deficit the V10 has combined with the older transmission mean that it wouldn't be close.

Anyway, I'm really impressed with what I've read here. My truck wouldn't get any better than 14 MPG at 70 MPH, so that 6.7L with it's 22 MPG really has me excited! Now I have to get one!

Just have to wait a year or so for some heavy incentives...

That mileage is great. Finally, they get the diesels back up above 20 mpg! I don't expect a Super Duty truck to be a gas sipper but it hurts getting 12 mpg knowing that technology allows for much better fuel efficiency. Stupid EPA!

A blast to drive and will out run and out tow almost every other light truck ever made.
