94 f250 vs 98 f250LD

I have a '98 F250LD (ext cab sbox) with the 5.4L, 3.73 rear end, and extra leaf springs that I use to pull a 6x16 gooseneck livestock trailer. I'm looking at buying a 94 F250 with a 351 5sp, reg cab long box, 4.10 rear end, for a hunting/farm pickup. My question is how would this 351 pull compared to my 5.4? The power numbers are relatively close since its a early model 5.4. I think they would pull about the same, the 351 maybe just a little better since it has 4.10 gears and the 5sp. What do you guys think?

The 94 has 111,000 and is a XL but has been taken good care of and I know the guy that has owned it. It has american racing rims with near new tires and chrome trim on it with little rust. It has a ball and trailer brake controller already installed. He's asking 2500 which is about right, what are your opinons on the price? TIA

my dad pulled a bumper hitch trailer for work for years with a '99SD with the 5.4. with a little over 320,000 its still going, though its finally losing a little bit of grunt (never been rebuilt). i gotta disagree with 75Three90, i think the 5.4triton is a better engine than the 351. it'll feel wheezy on some of the bigger hills. on the bright side, the 351 has tons of after-market parts available, and the basic cam/heads/headers/intake will really make it comparable to the 5.4 for little cost. just my .02

Were you planning to keep the 98? Have 2 trucks? I like the OBS trucks, I don't think you'll see a noticeable diffference in power. Are they 4wd? You said you wanted it for a hunting/fishing truck.

I have had new and old Fords. My favorite is the 29-97 F350s. I would not even think for a minute before buying the 351 powered truck. I appreciate the technology in newer trucks, but once they are out of warranty, thank you, no.

Yes, they are both 4x4 and im planning on keeping them both. just wanted to make sure and tell you all that my 98 f250 is not a heavy or super duty, its the light duty version. Basically just a heavy half since my rear end has a lot more leaf springs. MY 98 is a nice truck, dualed out and looks nice as its black with chrome and the goodies. I'm just tired of always having to clean it all the time before going out or going somewhere. The 98 will be my daily driver and the 94 will become the work truck/farm/ hunting truck and the 98 will be the back up

Another thing i was think was that shouldnt the 351 because to make a little bit more power on the low end compared the the 5.4? I know the 5.4 pulls good but its always downshifting to 3300-3600rpms to make it.

NavyMIDN08 no disrespect but maybe in your experience but I had a 2001 5.4 3\4 and it pulled for me like s*** I'd rather not have one again they are fine until you hook up to a 5 ton load. That's why I upgraded to a 460

Since this a post about opinion, I will state mine. Both motors are great when they were made and both do really well. Both also do great when geared appropriately for the job they are given. You have already made up your mind and really a 5spd paired with 4.10 gearing will have an easier time than an auto paired with 3.73 gearing. You do have a GVWR difference of 8600 vs 7700 but in truth both will do the work asked of them. Sounds like you have your going to town truck that you can wear sunday clothes in and your dirty coat and blue jeans truck for the farm. I really dont think you need an opinion from anyone else...
