Edelbrock Carb: Throttle & Trans Kickdown adapters
I installed an Edelbrock 1406 carb on my 1979 Ford F250, 400 engine, automatic. I don't know much about carbs because this is the first car I've owned with a carb
From what I understand, I need adapter kits to make the stock cables work with this new carb. There's an adapter kit for the throttle linkage. Apparently this is Edelbrock part #1483: Amazon.com: Edelbrock 1483 Throttle Lever Adapter: Automotive I will be purchasing that for the throttle linkage (unless that's not the right part, but after a lot of searching on this forum I'm pretty sure it is).
I also understand that I need an adapter for the transmission kickdown rod. After hours of searching this forum, I can't really find any conclusive answers as far as what to use for this adapter. I have seen mentions of getting a Lokar kit, but those are currently in the $65-90 range from what I see and that is just way too much, that's more than I paid for the carb! I have seen a lot of brief mentions on this forum about "Get the Ford AT kit" but the one thing I cannot find is any actual links or part numbers or references to which company makes this kit.
I also have a 1" spacer between the intake and the carb. I have seen a few mentions on this forum that if you have a spacer you might need some sort of extension or "extender kit" to make these new adapter kits work. Apparently the adapter kits do not factor in having a 1" spacer. I could not find any links or part numbers or any explanation of how to extend these kits to work with a 1" spacer.
1) Can someone please tell me which kit I need for my transmission kickdown rod to adapt to my new Edelbrock 1406 carb?
2) Can someone please inform me how to make both the throttle linkage adapter and the transmission kickdown adapter work if you have a 1" spacer on the carb?
Thank you all very much in advance! I looked all over this forum but most of the threads were several years old and all of the pictures that were posted no longer exist.

Is this Edelbrock 1483 going to be the only product I need to buy to correct the carb linkage, then?

Yep, it is a bracket that has the transmission kick-down lever plus it also allows you to attach your throttle rod.
The kit should also include a spring for the kick-down and an attaching bracket.
What some guys have had to do (maybe the small block guys) is buy or make an extension for the kickdown rod so it can reach the lever. About 2-3 inches long is all it is and can be made with just about anything you lying around if you really need to.
But like I said, back in the day I had a 360 with a 2 barrel manifold and installed a 390 with a highrise intake and the kickdown lever and rod were just fine with plenty of adjustment left.
As for the throttle rod, there is tons of adjustment there, so no worries.
