Did you do the math? They outsold both brands by 4,429. That is a large margin.

Thats the first time I can remember that the F-series outsold both the Silverado and Sierra (combined). Way to go Ford.

Yes I did the math and no I wouldn't consider 4500 trucks a large margin. The bigger news is the fact that Ford outsold GM all together (all vehicles). That hasn't happend since the 90's. They only did this because of fleet buyers but a win is a win I guess.

Ford is really on top of things right now. They've got some really good cars and trucks out there. Lately there has been a move for people to buy local, and with good reason. They are making good stuff. Quality will always out sell price.

People are willing to pay more for the perception of quality and reliabilty also.

Honestly I think Ford can improve a lot of the vehicles in their lineup. I'm not a fan of the way Ford has started grouping options into packages forcing you to buy a bunch of options you don't want or need to get one option you do. I'm not a fan of all the front wheel drive vehicles they are putting out either. I will never buy a front wheel drive vehicle myself.

I prefer rear wheel drive vehicles too. One reason I drive a truck!

Seriously, I have not looked at how the options are listed recently. I agree that in the past, I would have loved to have chosen one option and not some others listed in an option package. I would say all the manufacturers are doing that though. Not that, that should justify how things are done.

A good axample is with the F-150. Go to Fords site and try to build a 2010 XLT F-150 with 3.73 gears and the locking diff. The 3.73 gears will add well over a grand to the price and you can't get the locking diff in anything but an FX4. Two options that could easily be standalone. I won't even get into the Ranger and the E-series, its too sad.

In my opinion, a locking diff should be standard equipment on anything rear wheel drive.

Fords retail sales were up 28% compared to GM's 7% increase in retail sales.

GM's fleet sales were up 115%, while Fords fleet sales were only up 74%.

So that simply throws out your fleet sales arguement.

considering GM donated about 4500 vehicles for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. you can be sure those "free" vehicles are added into that fleet sales total.

even thou they arent truely sold, but are instead going to auction after

Ford outsells GM in Feb. as automakers notch gains | courier-journal.com | The Courier-Journal

Well according to the article, Fords lead is in thanks to their increase in fleet sales. If Fords Fleet and private sales are both up while GM's fleet sales are up but private sales down, that makes for a big enough margin to take the lead. Individuals make or break Auto companies, not fleets.

The point is, since GM's sales are way down (minus fleets) that increase in fleet sales for Ford was enough to give them the edge for now.
