I'll give them a call and check on the possibilities of 304 stainless.
I wouldn't even bother, I already know the answer.

IMO the best thing to do is try and get them to make some plain unplated or uncoated headers. That way the price per set will be lower and the lead time will be shorter. Its not worth paying for the ceramic or chrome coatings that Thorley put on their headers, won't last. Better off smoothing the welds and sending the headers off to a good shop to be ceramic coated if you want a ceramic coating. A little over $300 with shipping is not bad for coating a set of headers. Its not uncommon to pay an additional $200 or more for a ceramic coated set of off the shelf headers with a poor coating.

Quantity does a lot of things to how much something costs

I found a local company that offers coatings and have contacted them for information and pricing. I'll post up their response once I receive it.

I'm not sure I understand your comments... My point is that there is only a $70.00 upcharge for the JetHot coating at Roush Yates Performance Parts.

The dynomax headers I bought for my 74' said "Jet Hot" coated on the box and advertisement. The coating was junk, my guess is that was just for advertising purposes and is generic term. In most cases you get what you pay for.

They probably get a large quanity of parts coated at once, thus reducing the price part. That and I'm shure they skimp on the quality of the coating to keep price down.

I called Roush Yates Performance Parts (they are just down the road) and they confirmed that the finish is Jet-Hot. I agree that they must be getting volume discounts to get the price that low.

I got in on the set of Thorley headers that were posted on here... They came today. They were listed as chrome and by the number they were too. But opened them and packing paper showed they were ceramic... Took them out of their shipping wrap and that's what they are ceramic... Looks like got a even better deal on them...
Now to get time to put them on, looking at after bike weather gets here for when I get pissed digging out broken studs... I can just walk away from it and come back some other time...
Have plugs to put in along with changing trans fluid, and headers... Don't think its going to be fun so its going to be a long term project.... But you never know, it might go easy

I'm interested, but also would prefer an uncoated version.

I did a set of custom headers using Tech Line Coatings BHK shot in my backyard and am very pleased with the results.

Ok...that's 2 "semi-commitments" and 2 definents...Thanks, please keep 'em coming. I haven't touched base anyone yet, but will check out all the options later today. Now you guys have me second guessing too. Maybe the uncoated version would be the way to go. Now for another rookie question, and please excuse my ignorance, but how would a high end powdercoating process work in this application??? I have a friend that has access to a sweet system....... thoughts?

Powdercoating would be cooked off in a matter of minutes.
The only way I would ever consider a set of headers for a Superduty is if the headers were uncoated 14 ga tubing.

That's pretty much what I figured, that would have been too easy. Thanks JL

Good question! Does the 2005 Excursion with the 6.8L engine have an EGR?
