6.0 secondary fuel filter housing

Ok heres one the internet and the guy at the ford dealership cant answer. Does anyone know what the spring loaded valve in the secondary fuel filter housing is called? And is it sold seperatly, or would I have to buy the whole housing?

Fuel pressure regulator? A rebuild kit can be purchased.

I dont think its the regulator, the manual I have shows that to be mounted to the side of the housing. The piece I broke is mounted inside the housing, and the filter slides over it. From what I can tell, it is a spring loaded valve, and the diagram i found shows it flowing back to the tank. When I changed the filter, the top part of it stuck inside the filter and broke off when I took out the filter.

Just out of curiousity, I found another post that seemeda lot like the same problem Im having...which led to the premature failing of the little plastic valve thing in my housing...and various curse words...How full should the upper filter housing be with fuel when you open it up? I barely had any, maybe a tablespoon. Would this point to a fuel pump? ($$$I hope not$$$) I do hear it come on with the key, but Im not sure what kind of pressure I have. I'll probably go after a gauge tommorrow

I bought one several months ago on ebay. It's called fuel filter return valve. Part # 1843061C92. If you go to your service department it might be called clean fuel return tube kit. When I get home tonight I'll look to see if it has another part number for you.

I have seen that brands can play a key role in this, how are "luber Finer" from autozone? Should I get something else? Im new to diesels (this is my first one) and can use all the help i can geth

Motorcraft/Racor filters ONLY!
I usually get the filters from my local international dealer as they are much cheaper than paying Ford for them $$$.

Last time I checked part numbers were
International part# 1847170C93
Ford part#FD-4604

Absolutely do not use aftermarket filters. My guess is that is why you are in the mess that you are in now.

The center post of the fuel filter is spring loaded shut when the fuel filter is removed. I know this for a fact because since I installed my AIRDOG 2 fuel pump, I was going to eliminate the secondary fuel filter to reduce restriction on fuel flow. Won't work. Motor will not start. Installed a new fuel filter and motor lit right off. When the filter is removed, fuel is shut off to the injectors.

Suggest you use Ford or Racor filters.

When you install the filter, be sure to attach it to the palstic filter top first. Then push straight down until the cap is seated against the housing. Without releasing the pressure, start threading the cap back into the filter housing.

Probably the reason your center post is broken is when the filter is installed on the center post, it does not go all the way down. When the cap is put on, the hole in the filter top does not engage properly with the little fingers in the top. When the top is screwed down, the filter ***** and puts side stress on the center post. Since the post is plastic, it snaps. Been a lot of pictures on this site with crushed and twisted filters due to improper installation.

YOu can purchase OEM and RACOR filters here:

www.dieselfiltersonline.com

Ask bismic who posted here earlier for his spreadsheets on how to keep your 6.0 running correctly, if you have not already.
