Love that truck! Keep it coming. I'd LOVE to find one of those eventually as a tow rig for my '69 & '68 Broncos & family of 6...

Yeah, I've got to agree that the bump sides are growing on me... been thinking a lot of a crew for my next build (sick man, not even done tearing down my CV yet) - I was looking hard for a slick, but I think the bumps could be an easier find & therefor less expensive to build. Saw a sweet bump flatbed today outside the local DMV.... should've snapped a picture. I actually used to drive a '68 bump mason's dump - it'd be like coming home.

Keep the updates coming!

Glad I found this thread!!! I am looking at a Highboy crew and the only pic the guy sent me is poor at best he says it's "rusty but trusty". Looks like bad rust along the doors from corner of front fender to the corner of the back door. In your experience do you think that would indicate the floor and cowl are shot as well? The drip rails look ok in the lousy pic at least. It's in your neck of the woods anyone in AZ willing to go eyeball this thing for me? Even if its bad your thread is very motivating, anything can be fixed.

It will be a Merc when i am done........A faux one but still have all the correct parts and pieces. I even have a few extra one off things for it.

I have all the badges and tailgate and it was made in Canada.

I have gotten a bit more done in the last few weeks, Here is the new floor section in place for a trial fit. I have the frame ready to section and will hopefully do it this weekend.

Firewall

Floor pan on passenger side

Floor seam. It is hidden from view as i cut the floor on top of the brace.

I tried to lay out all the welds so they would appear factory.

7DF250 Where is the truck located in AZ? there are a few of us here who can help out. I never figured to get this deep in to it but if i do not take care of it now it will just come back and i plan to have the truck out live me if possible. Rust in the floors is a failure in the cowl. My cowl had missing caulk from when it was built inside the cowl and it allowed moisture to seep in and basically destroy the bottom of the cowl for a 6 inch section and ea away the firewall.

The frame will be stretched 15.5 inches to accommodate the really nice long bed that came with the donor.

I bought this crew to replace the Suicide Crew i built, but had to sell when i moved across country. It will have some of the same features i planned for that truck.

I kind of like the bumps too. I have an old drive with hundreds of pics of the 66 crew build.

I stumbled across that pic and a few other conversations where you mentioned it. Since you have so many photos saved, and if you find the time, how about a p-bucket "scrapbook"? I seem to recall you wrote that one had 600 hours in metal work? I guess from all you've said you learned a lesson the hard way - that's why you just cut the entire floor out of this one? Wow, that's one heckuva complicated quilt! It did sound neat with the suicide doors and all. I haven't given up hope on a slick crew - fact is if I bring another project home before the '63 gets out of the garage, I'll be in the doghouse, so I've got time... Keep the updates coming - maybe I'll get back out in the garage & get to work! LOL (Just thought about it & there needs to be a smilie-symbol for "in the doghouse" ;-) --EDIT-- Just realized you'd posted pics & info too... (sometimes the emails just take me to the very latest post, so I have to scroll back up to see if I missed anything - and I did!) VERY NICE WORK on that "patch panel"!

It was near Pheonix but he said he sold it this morning so I missed it, probably best sense it was pretty rusty. I will find one but in the mean time I'll enjoy watching everyone elses.

Ended up selling the truck to a guy from Tucson. Sad to see her go but my health and too many projects. Last time i posted to the thread was about two years before i had the heart attack and open heart surgery and i only was able to do frame work in the intervening time. It went to a guy that will finish it possibly with a cummins.

Sorry to hear about the project. I haven't seen anyone take off the whole firewall and replace it before I seen your build. Do you know if the guy will be making any build threads online for the crew cab? I still got your ole unicrew just begging and tempting me to work on it. But trying to finish my 71 first. Been looking for a unibody passenger door and tailgate for quite awhile now. I did manage to get a clean drivers door. So parts are slowly gathering. I was trying to find a mercury Uni gate but I know it wil be next to impossible. Hope your doing well. Got any other projects your doing?

From what i understand he has about 7 bump crews. Collects them. I do not know if he will do a build thread.

I am trying to get my 63 done. I have the 4.0 on the engine stand for some timing chain guides, general cleanup of all the aluminum and gaskets. I would like to ave it ready for the LA roadsters show and the following weekend at the F100 Western Nats.
