C4-C6 overall length? Please,id front eng. mnt, bellhuosing&slave cyl for 300inline
What would be the shortest overall length, in any configuration, C4 or C6 transmission available? Preferable a C6. Or are there other auto options similar to the C4-C6. It needs to be short and bolt up to a 300 inline same as sbf.
See photos below. These were bolted up to a 75 300 inline with a BW T18 or T19. All of it was in what I have been told was a 1970 Wonder Bread truck aluminum step van. The bellhousing was bolted to the frame at the bosses on the bottom front sides, one large bolt each side. The engine mount was bolted to the front sides of the block with four bolts and to the frame with one large bolt. The bellhousing seems to be cast iron or cast steel it is very heavy, definitely not aluminum. It has what I believe is an 11" clutch kit.
1. Anybody have a clue what make or model vehicle this would be? Is "Germin?" a possibility?
2. Would cast steel or iron be strong enough to be considered "blow proof"?
I am trying to track down mounting hardware and replacement parts for the clutch kit & slave cylinder.
Thanks for any info
Jim

Ford didn't use a hydraulic clutch between about 60 and 83, but the 83+ ones look exactly like that bellhousing.
Grumman would be the body manufacturer, but if it had a Ford engine it was built on a Ford chassis, generally an E350 if it was a dual rear wheel and E250 for a single rear wheel.

Trans lengths...looks like the shortest C4 is 24 5/16, the C6 33 1/2. I'm pretty sure there are other versions--like 4x4 for example--and other tailshaft housings than listed here:
TCI - TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Transmission Dimensions
The make of your step van might be "Grumman". Do you see "Kurbmaster" on it anywhere? A data plate should be in the cab somewhere.
Grumman Olson Stepvan Parts
Frito Lay truck, the UPS and FedEx trucks, millions served. Google "Grumman" or "Grumman Olson".
That bell, iron or steel, might contain a clutch explosion. Are you planning on blowing up a clutch? While it might contain such an explosion, it is not rated for that duty and WILL NOT pass an inspection by any racing sanctioning body. They will require SFI certification.

Thanks for the info. I searched Grumman based on info from another on here and did not see the exact info I was looking for. The truck has been cut up and scraped thats how I ended up with my 309 back home. I lent it to a friend years ago so he could start his semi trailer repair business. It only has about 30,000 miles on a complete stock rebuild. I currently have 2 93 4.9L efi's in my position. That may be a whole other project someday. I am not "planning" on blowing up the clutch. I do plan on solid mounting my 309 inline in my FFR Roadster. At some point I would like to see +300hp and +450tq maybe more. With this and if I use a manual trans I plan on some pretty aggressive launches... juz for fun! Not looking to get cert just safe. As far as the automatic I may not build my FFR so hot and use the auto so one day when I launch to hotrod heaven may daughter will be able to enjoy my efforts.
Also, yes posted four times I'm runnin' behind schedule and need the info. I have been putting my life and kit on the back burner since the day I ordered my kit when my daughter became ill, Aug 15 2007 (search FFCobra.com for same user name you should be able to find the story). Been takin' care of my baby since and now that she is recovering well we are now ready to... "GET ER' DONE" and I am also ichin' and twitchin' to move on to my next dream. Check my sig.
Take Care

Your pictures show a typical medium truck 3 point mount - one front, 2 rear. Bellhousing should be cast iron. Might contain a clutch that lets go at high speed, but I would not bet my legs on it. If it will be a concern, use a blanket or scattershield.
For parts, look at mid 60s and 70s 300 six applications in the F500 and F600. That should get you clutch parts to fit what you have.

Looks like your spot on the casting # is C5TA-7505-D 65 truck chassis part by my searches. I will be using high performance clutch kit parts. If I do take it to the track a blanket will be in order. I have some SS sheeting which I may use to line the trans tunnel on my kit just for extra security. Thanks to the link provided by 85e150six4mtod I can see I may be using a C4. Right now I need to move back ~ 5.5" to drop the 70 series truck motor mounts in place. The C4 is ~6" shorter than the BW T10 I have in place. I still like driving a manual trans. As I get older and traffic increases it is less fun. Also I think having the auto will make it more desirable for my Daughter. Through links provided here I was able to find some pretty stout C4's at reasonable cost. A stall converter/manual valve body/trans brake are all options to make the auto a bit more fun. I'll do some more research to find my direction. I need to find some info on a short/strong OD trans or see what 4x4 options offer so I may be able to an add OD unit to a C4. Man alive I'll be able to shake it on down into over drive
Take Care and thanks for all of the help guys

Post 5 here has links to transmission outfits, with AOD info up on the links. Another consideration perhaps.

Yep I found most of that from the other stuff you have posted. It looks like a C4 stall converter/trans brake/manual valve body. Unless I can find a short OD trans and do the same. 4x4? Still lookin'!
Thanks for all of the help And the well wishes. Just as a side note my Daughter and I went for a cruse in her "new" 04 mustang today. We had the top down. It was about 33-35 here and sunny. Blasted the heat and the tunes... had a blast. Her big grin from ear to ear was... priceless!
