05 Expy Park Assist help

I recently purchased a 2005 Expedition XLT. It has had a rear bumper replacement at some point due to a minor accident. The park assist will not engage, when I try it says "check park assist". There are only two sensors on the bumper, is this right??

I have 2005 EXP EB 4x4 that has original rear bumper and that has four sensors. I am not sure if the XLT is different. But sometimes when I shift into drive from reverse, the message center displays "check park assist" as well. Anyone know why?? Truck has 96k

I think in earlier years there were bumpers that had two visible sensors and one central sonar (or radar, whichever the visible ones aren't). As far as the intermittant check system warning ti sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere. I had this on my '04 and it was in the left rear tailight where the wires for the system meet up with the main wiring.

Thanks, If anyone knows how many sensors there are from the factory on a 2005 XLT please post it. I am going to get under the back and check all the connections.

I got under the back today and checked the wiring harness for the "P.A.". There are two visible sensors on the rear bumper with wires going to both and a point in the center that the wiring harness is also plugged into, this center connection has no external sensor. Is it possible that the wrong bumper cover was used as a replacement and is covering the center sensor(s)?

Ditto on my 05 Limited having 4 sensors on the back, but "knock on wood" no problems with that part of the vehicle yet. I'd take a look under the bumper at the connectors you have. I'm thinking the 05 Navi's only had two sensors??

edit: okay I type slow, you posted your checking out before I hit submit. I'd vote for the wrong bumper cover used. I also think the 06 or ups only had two sensors

That could explain it... It might be a navi rear on me Expy. The wiring harnesses would probably mate-up at the tail light connector.

Right or left?

I have an 06 Expedition with park assist not working. I checked the codes and it says the right rear and right central sensors aren't working. I think based on the situation that this is right looking from the rear rather than from the front, but I can't find anything that says which way. Anybody know if it's right from rear for sure?

If it says right it would be the passenger side.

All vehicle part location references are always as if you are sitting in the driver's seat.
