Incorrect Fuel Gauge Reading?

Hey there, i need a bit of help with my '96 f250 5.8L concerning the fuel reading in my truck. I wait until my fuel gauge reads just about empty to fill it up again. Well within the past few months or so, ive noticed that every time i go to fill up, i can only pump in about 13 gallons in my 19 gallon tank....which leaves 6 gallons still in the tank while shes reading empty? Oh, and if it makes a difference at all, i havent used my rear tank at all in about 2 years because of a leak. Im confused to whats goin on here. Thanks in advance for any help or insight!

uhm the leaking rear tank wouldnt be causing the problem

the sending unit in the tank is probably wore out

did u use to run the truck alot with just 6 gallons or so in the tank

The rear tank on my '92 F350 reads empty when I have about 4 gallons left. Seems pretty normal to the reading you are getting. I have run it until the engine sputtered and died several times to test how far I can go and what a complete refill takes. It also took exactly 19 gallons to refill it when I installed a brand new tank.

I have never been able to fill more than 13 gallons in my rear tank that should be a 18.2 gallon tank. Even when the gauge reads on the wrong side of empty for the last 40 miles.
