my father bought his 1988 f450 diesel dump truck in 1990 brand new for 13000. the economy wasn't great then so it sat on the lot for a year or two. 13,000 was a hell of a deal. we sold it a few years back. we would let it sit for a few months and it would ALWAYS start. old faithful. i miss her.

I paid exactly...?

I paid exactly $0 for mine. I bartered for him. I traded some stuff for some other stuff, and traded that for him. Nothing illegal. Just too much detail to list. Over all cost for me wasn't bad

'92 F350 4x4, 9' utility box, ZF 5 speed, 7.3 IDI. Custom headers, dual exhausts with glass packs, 8000 lb ramsey winch behind original bumper. 89,000 original but hard miles. It has been on this island where I live since it was ordered new by a local contractor. I know all 3 previous owners. Paid 3500.00 in 2009. Has 105 miles on it now. When I bought it, it had a worn out and broken clutch pedal in the cab. I fabbed up a reinforcement for the bracket and welded it up. Manual glow plug relay was hooked up backwards so hard starting. Brakes were good, tires fair. I haul old salvaged beams which I resaw into boards on my sawmill on a triple axle trailer and the gravel road to my shop climbs 500' in a half mile. Some of the huge loads would have been impossible with a lesser truck. I have been quite involved here with the 57-60 truck page, where I recently installed a cummins 6at 6 cyl turbo diesel into my '59 F 350. It now carries the 9' flareside box you see in this photo. It looks way better on the '59 than it does as a trailer with 15" car tires......

$1700 - 1985 F250 regular cab 4x4 T19, 160,000-ish miles
Has:
* Dealers Diesel crate engine, 50,000-ish miles
* Completely solid frame - truck was on the farm, off any salty road, since '91
* 3.55 gears that we wanted, LS rear
* Rattle-can black paint job

Needs:
* Tires (getting Cooper Disco STs this week)
* Rear fuel tank
* Skid plate for front fuel tank
* Body work (esp. the seat belt anchors)
* Minor tweaks (locks, reverse lights, etc)

Seller wanted $1800, we opened with $1500, prob. could have settled on $1600 but oh well.

$260 Got me about a month ago;

-1989 F350 Crew Cab, Long Box, Single Rear Wheel, 4X4, NA 7.3, Manual Valve Body C6, Tight LS Rear, 4.10 gears, Hummer Wheels w/Run Flats, no tires, batteries or fuel, and a badly dented bed.

-1988 F250 ExCab Long Box 4X4 Parts truck with a 7.3 but missing the tranny and much of the interior.

-Old but working Banks Turbo setup

-3 12,000lbs Warn 24V Hummer winches

-Extra vented 5th Wheel Tailgate

Towed both trucks home, threw some spare tires and batteries I already had in the F350, a little fuel and a few hours later it's a runner. Fixed return lines, and am putting on a strait bed of the same color I already had from another truck I had that is going to parts.

Already sold the turbo kit and more then recouped my costs.

The F250 is on it's way to becoming a matching trailer. I got piles of spare parts for my trucks, and other parts to sell making me more $ all the time. You guys talk about anticipated costs, I'm looking at anticipated profits. Throw in the fuel savings over my 460 truck, and selling it when I am happy with the diesel as it's replacement and I couldn't really be happier with my IDI purchase.

Paid $1200 for my 91 f-59 chassis step van. Ran and drove good for a few months. Then rear end split on left axle. Bought the only rear end in the United states for my truck and installed to find it was bad. Paid to have it repaired. Totalling $1200 for purchase and repair.
Then a few months later the trans went out. Paid $450 for a low mile trans and installed it. It was a bad trans and the guy wont give me my money back. Took old trans to trans guy and had it rebuilt for 1200 total with new torque converter. That was about a month ago and now the engine is running bad and smoking. Now sure what it is yet but Im sure its gonna cost me!!! lol
