True dual exhaust on 93 5.8L

Hey guys my buddy has a 93 F350 srw with a 5.8L and auto trans, its 4x4 and its lifted.

He recently took it to a local exhaust shop and said he wanted 2.5" true duals (to support future mods) off his manifolds, high flow cats, into an X-pipe and into 2 seperate flowmaster 1 chamber mufflers, the exhaust shop told him 2 days later its impossible to do this exhaust setup, my friend suggested an H-pipe and they still said it was impossible and wanted it out of their shop.

I know the shop is retarded but this is possible right? I know on my chevy due to the gas tank i have to run the true duals down the passenger side next to each other and i'm guessing his ford is like this too, i haven't looked at it much. This truck is lifted so high you really don't even need a lift to make the exhaust easily accessible.

Pictures of your true daul setups would be appreciated and any input.

Thanks.

Your gonna have to run the exhaust down the same side on a Ford as well, now I don't have an h or x pipe on mine but I have heard of people putting a balance pipe on.I think your friend is wasting his time on this.Unless you can run equal length dual's like on a mustang, which is not gonna happen on a 4wd truck with dual tanks.

The X-pipe/H-pipe is a waste of time or the whole idea of duals?

If he gets shorty headers that are the same length of stock manifolds down the road They'll go right in but unfortunely we're both poor high school kids , haha

Definitely a waste. It's going to just be excess weight and more than likely, flow less than a 3" single.

"true" Duals on these trucks arent really true duals. because the drivers side pipe has to be bent to run down the passenger side due to 4wd or the gas tank in the way and i think there is no way to make it the same length unless you were to have the drivers side pipe exit on the passenger side and the passenger side exit on the drivers but idk also i think a balance pipe somewhere in the middle helps too

Its still true duals if each manifold has its own pipe, even if the pipes run next to each other the whole way.

But i see what you're saying, a nice mandrel bent 3" single is the way to go. I gotta talk him into it.

True duals means dual pipes all the way from the manifolds/headers back. "untrue" duals are a single in dual out muffler type setup.

You can have true duals just fine you just have to run them both both the passenger side.

I heard once, that when figuring the size of duals to use, take the displacement in liters and divide by 2. Does this sound off?
Thought I would post this from another thread.

You can run true duals like in that picture above, its really the only way to do it. I would rather go with a 3 inch single and dual out if he wants 2 pipes or single exit in the stock location. It will flow just as well as the duals.

If your friend wants louder than 2 chamber Flows tell him to get Cherry Bomb Extreme. They sound good. I would recemmend straight through over chambered mufflers though.

Yea trust me i know all about how sucky flowmasters are when they come to actually flowing! lol,

He wants that tinny hollow sound and my jaw dropped when he said that, i HATE that sound, and i HATE cackling and he wants a little of both so he was gonna do 1 chamber flowmasters.

I do agree though, the Cherry bomb extreme (the real short ones) do have a mean rumble, NOT glasspacks.

My personal truck has a DI/DO magnaflow and i honestly would reccomend it to everyone.

Anything we've discussed in this thread should be better than stock though, has anyone seen the size of that cat ????? lol

If i was him i'd cut off the cat, and put some kinda of 3" muffler on it for now and drive it because he NEEDS to do other things.

It has 8" of lift turning 37" toyo mud terrains, 5.8L with a stock E4OD and 4.10 gears, so needless to say its a bit of a turd and with the stock 4.10 gears its putting stress on stuff, it needs at least 4.56's i'm told with those tires, they may even be bigger than 37", they fill the wheel well with a 6" susp. lift and 2" body.
