Blue Thunder vs Offy

Last year I rebuilt my 428 and after a lot of tuning issues, I finally have it working better than ever. I think next step is to buy a different intake for it.

I have this old 2x4 360 Offenhauser manifold that has bad port matching, and lacks a bit with respect to low end torque as it's more or less a single plane design. Am thinking of purchasing a Blue Thunder Double Plane unit, more or like this:

MY old one looks like this:

A fellow on another forum posted a comparison:

I am amazed at the difference as I've never seen very significant performance changes due to changing the intake in any of the "intake shootout" articles, etc.

Any comments before I take a $800 plunge?

I don't know if I would believe the chart... but the dual plane should have better low end torque and be more responsive than the single plane. It would be best to find someone with actual experience with it. Here's a forum thread with that refers to the Blue Thunder manifold (last entry).

Hey John, Yeah might do some research with Jay Browns " Great Intake Comparo" on the other site...You might be better served with the dual plane 2 four Tunnel Wedge ? Thats probably the route I'll go when my builld is ready...

Hi Russ: Jay Brown was the one who supplied me with the graph. I'll have to look for his other comparisons. Thank-you.

Heya John...Yeah I kind of thought that Graph looked familiar ..lol...Yeah ask him for one with the Tunnel port dual plain on it... If they worked well on the early 427's with a shorter stroke than your 428..you should get alot more Tq out of one with the 4.000" arm in yours..

Good Luck and keep me posted Via email Bud !

yeah, i would switch, but would prefer a 1x4 intake but that doesn't look as cool or vintage. I really like intake manifold with taper like the blue thunders and some others. More potential with porting.
