Want to add heated mirrors, can it be done?

I have a 99 F-250 with regular extending mirrors, is there any way to putt heated mirrors on and run the wiring for it? Is there a factory wiring kit that I can get? Has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance..

Brian

sure can! just get the 05 and later mirrors with the turn signals and heat on them and they will bolt right up and then you just run the 4 wires for the ground the heat and the turn signals and running lights. there is a write up around here somewhere just do a search for 05 mirror conversion and you will find the link in the thread. you also might want to wire in a switch for the mirror heat so they are not on all the time....

I did it with a pair of heated '02 mirrors off an Ex. I don't have the turn signals but I love the heat. I just wired the heat to the electric window switches in each door. Here's the write-up.

I wired the heat to a switch that is a key on power. I did not like the idea of them always on when the truck is keyed on.

One of these days, I will wire them to a defrost switch but they work for now.

Well thanks to PonyBoyChris, he gave me a switch for the defroster from a 91 Exploder for my heated mirrors that I put on my 99. The switch has the timer built into it so I just wired it up and away I go.

I am considering this swap/upgrade.
My 02 mirrors have no heat and I def prefer the turn signals in the mirrors vs w/o
Is the main issue the fact the heat always stays ON?

I dont think it is a issue, If you were to get them on your truck from the factory thats how it would come. Personally I just did not like them on all the time considering the amount of time I use them.

I was gonna ask you if you got that switch in yet. Glad you got it going. Obviously I haven't wired mine up yet. I think I'll put my Exploder switch on my F650 dash that I have - once I get that in... I really need to get some time for this stuff.

Like Mike said, the factory wiring has them on all the time. If you can find a defrost switch from a early to mid 90's Explorer, they have an internal timer that will power your mirrors on for 15 minutes. That's the way to go. All you have to do is run a wire from the doors, thru the wire loom in the door jam to underneath the dash to the switch.

That's a great offer. I'll have to invite myself over soon.
