95 mustang 5.0
OK so I finally found an engine (I hope) for my 91 f-250 5.0 5 speed 4x4. I picked up a really clean 95 mustang 5.0 complete. What can or should I keep from the mustang engine or what do I have to swap from my truck.
I know the pan has to swap, but not being up to speed on EFI, what about the intake throttle body etc. Can I use the mustang headers, I know the Y pipe will have to be altered but that should be cheaper than PU headers.
I hope I'm not asking for too much info, but the last engine I swapped was a mustang 5.0 in a 1980 f150.

Couldn't find a 5.8 to put in there?
For the easiest install put the truck intake, oilpan(with pickup), and accessory brackets on the bare HO longblock. The HO intake is better suited to the motor but using it will require some customization to the wiring, vacuum lines, intake tubes and airbox, and possibly the throttle control cable. If you had an earlier upper intake you could turn it around so the TB faces the drivers side and then the airbox could stay in the stock location.

I put a 5.0HO into my bronco, just swap all the truck stuff over, will make it easier to work, but I do say my 5.8L in my F350 is way more powerful. The 5.0HO has 50K on it, GT40 ported and polished heads, and cobra roller rockers. Does run good tho. Make sure you do the HO firing order when you put it in.

Thanks guys, I'm probably gonna be a pest till I get this done. 5.8s are hard to find in any kind of decent shape and I didn't want to stray too far from what I have. I've not been short of power with my 5.0s, but I'd be open to any suggestions as to what I can add to get more HP. without loosing fuel economy.

I'm gonna try to use the Mustang headers, I've opened up the exhaust already, so outflow shouldn't be a problem.
I've wondered if opening up the exhaust wasn't causing a shortage of intake air with the stock air intake system.
Is there an intake system that will provide more air than the stock filter arrangement?
I have a KN filter system that came with the Mustang engine, I am gonna try to adapt to my PU intake.

The stang headers wont bolt up to the truck exhaust, the stang ones point back to the firewall too much, they will fit, but you will have to adjust the down tubes, id just get some long tubes, I have hedmans on my 88 bronk with the ho swap. If you have the motor out, id swap a good cam, and some nice heads on if budget allows it. Id also change all the seals while its out, rear main, oil pan, valve covers( you have to use truck covers), crank seal. Use good felpro permadrys. Work wonders, so much better then cork ones.

Yea waterpump and timing cover gaskets are a great idea. I use Permatex Hightack wherever a paper gasket is, holds it in place, and helps it seal up way better. Dont use anything on the permadry gaskets, just 4 drops of ultra grey silicone on the corners of the oil pan gasket where the front and rear bearing caps are, and if you get the cork intake valley gaskets throw them out, just lay a nice bead of ultra grey silicone across the valley to the intake gaskets. Will last way longer then the cork ones will.
