Thats what I used .... high quality electrical contacts cleaner from work.

I've meant to compare ingredients between it and the CRC's MAF Cleaner ... but haven't yet.

I was told by several peeps to get the CRC MAF cleaner so I did. Cost like $6 for the can but it's priceless knowing it's the right stuff.

Technically the CRC QD cleaner contains Petroleum distillates. The MAF sensor is designed so once the engine is shut down a increased electrical current is drawn through it to burn off excess contaminants.

You should use a MAF specific cleaner or contact cleaner that contains no petroleum.

I looked for CRC's MAF specific cleaner but couldn't find it that day so I went with the QD cleaner.

I couldn't link directly to the pages on the CRC site so I had to screen capture them. You can search for these and all their other products here:
CRC Industries Automotive

But, if you compare this page:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~jcray/04...C_QD_specs.JPG

to this page:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~jcray/04..._MAF_specs.JPG

you'll see that they both have a petroleum distillate/alcohol base type. I've been using this stuff for a while with no noticeable problems??

Obviously the MAF cleaner is specifically for MAF's for one reason or another, but I don't think its because of the petroleum distillate base type

I, too, always want to use the correct thing.

But, the only difference I see between the two products is the propellant ...with the MAF cleaner using the newer, "greener" HFC-152a refrigerant ... vs CO2.

I use CRC MAF cleaner and the shop that wrote the tune for my truck uses it too. Were not talking a lot of money here ($7 a can) to buy the right cleaner, and a can will clean a MAF over half a dozen times.

Yeah, it wasn't a cost issue, it was an availability issue. I couldn't find the "right" thing when I was shopping around so I just went with the QD electronic cleaner. To me, it seemed sufficient and so far I guess it has been.

When I run out I'll probably try to find the MAF cleaner, but if I can't, I'll get the QD electronic cleaner again.

Its not a cost issue for me, either. I just get curious about such things .... and would like to know the difference between the two products, if there is one.

Any one know how to test the MAF?

my truck is getting a p0401 and said it was caused by my AFE dry filter.... I cleaned it with contact cleaner so I really do think thats the issue....i think they are saying it because the filter is there. I cleaned it after the p0401.
