A dumb newbie question ...... effie??

Ok, flame away, but I have to ask what is probably going to be a really dumb question that reflects just how much of a newbie I am. (Please know that before I decided to ask this, I used the "search" feature to see if there was a glossary of Ford Truck jargon.)

Please, what is an "effie?" Are we referring to our trucks as "effies" because of the model designations, F1, F2, F6, F100, F150, F250, and so on?? I suspect this is the origin of the term, but having not been involved in the Ford truck hobby for very long, the term is new to me. Would this make Chevy trucks "essies?" I know they use S-10 for a light truck designation. Do they use S -20, S -30, etc. for their larger trucks?

It's how the letter "F" is pronounced.... "eff"... So, "Effie" is a nickname or slang.

Well, it's not a dumb question at all, and I'm happy that if you are wondering about something, you feel like you can come ask us - we'll only laugh for a minute or two.

This is a true testiment to the quality of our search function as I am certain that we answered the Bonus Built/Effie/Refrigerator question before.

Ask any question you like, you don't have to worry about being "flamed" on this site. Folks around here are very easy going and willing to help. We actually prefer those very simple questions 'cause we stand a good chance of answering them correctly.

GM's label their trucks a bit different, 2wd were designated C10, C20, etc, The 4wd's were K's....K10, K20, etc. Late 80's early 90's they changed to C1500, C2500, etc, or K1500, K2500, etc.

No need to beat yourself up for asking a question. Newbie doesn't mean stupid. It just means that you have an interest in gaining some knowledge on a certain topic. Everyone here was a newbie at some point. All of us continue to be Newbies in other pursuits.

"Flaming" is not acceptable with this group in my experience. I find it mostly to be about encouragement and good natured ribbing.... Technical data, What did you do ? Sometimes celebration and sometimes shared-loss.....

Welcome,
Your braver than me, I had the same question when I first got my truck. I was too afraid to ask so I just began to read all the post 'till found the one linked above. My fear of looking/sounding foolish is still there, but that's my problem not the sites or the people on it. Just read thru some of the past posts and you see questions asked over and over again with nobody getting bent out of shape, just good answers/help.
(Sissies.....Got to use that one on my brother the next time he lays into me about his finished '64 Chebby truck.)
