cold air intake

i have a 98 f150 4.9l 4x4. would a cold air intake system help me gain fuel milage at all. my milage is about 160-180 miles per tank(about 16 gal) well thats what my odometer reads anyway. i have 31's on it.

I don't know about a 98 but on our series 87-96 they don't do squat just suck in warm air which like i said don't do squat. I would imagine that it wouldn't help on yours either.

if you're talking about a K&N style cone filter .. no .. they are actually warm air intakes (they take in under hood air, not outside air) ..

the 300 six actually has one of the better stock intake systems .. I've read here on FTE that swapping to this setup even for larger V8s is better than most other options ..

if your talking about something like this (see pic) .. maybe? but the object of these setups is not improving MPG ..

also see this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-cold-air.html

Recalibrate your speedo and do a tunup, that will do more for milage than anthing else outside your driving habits.

The supposed cold air intakes like KN is not worth wasting you money on. The factory intake setup is more of a cold air intake than the aftermarket ones. Use that money for a tune up and fresh fluids.

Could we just put it in the "Read first" section........... Aftermarket cold air intakes are a worthless, riceburner mod that do NOTHING for the truck, in fact will most likely detract from performance/reliability..........But hey, they look cool man.

Here are the extremely limited instructions. Would like to see a pic.

Also, There is a video on the product, I haven't seen it yet, I have to close this browser for my Quick Time installation to complete.
Untitled Page

EDIT: I have no idea what the video is supposed to be. Nothing related to the product.

I started the other thread that was posted. I'm not sure what you would like a pic of. Installation was super simple, drill the 4 mounting holes and attach the duct to the firewall. I stuck a marker inside and traced around the edges so when I removed the duct I had a rectangle drawn on the firewall. I used a dremel to cut out the hole. If there is something you would like to see that I can't think of, let me know and I'll be happy to take a pic.

Anything specific or you just want some more general pics. I'll have to get them tomorrow as it's dark now.
